A republican Congressman too... just a crazy country...
I believe the Constitution requires them to bear arms in defence of their county, not to massacre their own countrymen
I remember reading somewhere that it allows them to, rather than requires them to - a cheap form of army that could be quickly mobilised I suppose.
It was a good few years ago though, so I may be wrong.
It does require them to defend their country, but as with most "ideologies" it is open to interpretation
They are also permitted to own firearms to protect themselves and or families from intruders to their property
Again open to interpretation
It was based on the idea of a civilian militia as opposed to full sized permanent army

An interesting thought - New Zealand are to introduce legislation in 2025 banning the sale or supply of smoked tobacco products to anyone born after 2010.
Am all for it myself - but can just imagine the outcry from the professional protester types...
