When will our consciences grow so tender that we will act to prevent human misery rather than avenge it?

    Perspective...

A young couple moves into a new neighbourhood. The next morning while they are eating breakfast, the young woman sees her neighbour hanging the washing outside. "That laundry isn't very clean; she doesn't know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry detergent." Her husband remains silent.

Every time her neighbour hangs her washing to dry, the young woman makes the same comments - and her husband remains silent.

A month later, the woman is surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and says to her husband: "Look, she's finally learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her that?" The husband replies, "I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows."

The same applies to life - what we see when watching others depends on the clarity of the window through which we look.

Having worked in PNG for a few months in the 70s when the Raskol gangs first emerged, I'd say the aristocrats are welcome to the place. I'm told it hasn't changed much since then.

An excerpt from an episode of the 1963 David Attenborough's TV series 'Quest Under Capricorn' - The Hermits of Borroloola. In it he interviewed Irishman Jack Mulholland, the landlord of the remote Northern Territory community's pub, about how he had coped with life there for twenty years.
A simple man with a simple philosophy - one I sometimes wish the troublemakers of this world would embrace.

The community had actually grown considerably since then, and was in the news only last month when floodwaters caused by Cyclone Megan surrounded it, but the 870 residents couldn't be evacuated as ADF planes couldn't land.

    The mystery of sock sizes...

I have never had a problem with them until recently. I take size 10 shoes so, sock-wise, the 6-11 size has always sufficed. Thanks to arthritis, I now have one foot bigger than the other - a size 11. But size 11 socks are strangely too small.
I thought I had solved the problem when I found some 12-13 sized socks but no - they are actually smaller than the 6-11 ones.

Why can't sock manufacturers get their act together?:(

I never wear socks, but maybe it is the heat here. I walk to the shop bare foot sometimes.
