He seemingly likes both Harry's and the feeling from both is reciprocated too. Winks gave an interview the other day saying it's nice to be given chances again and is enjoying back being involved whereas about 3 or 4 different journos have said Kane is loving life under Conte and excited about the future again, with a keen eye on who the club bring in during January.
Fernandes has played 107 minutes so far this season. Missed a few games through injury, but it seems that Benfica are struggling to fit him in, too. Was ever-present for Galatasary in the 2nd half of last season after quarantine. Can't blame it on us killing his confidence after that.
More than anything else, Gedson and Vini basically mean there's no chance of us signing anyone from Benfica for a while...
Not on loan, anyway. Wouldn't mind Julian Weigl, but I doubt they'd want to sell. At the other end of the scale, they've got a Brazilian fullback called Gilberto...
Not sure why everyone is so down on Gollini? Hugo sets the bar very high for sure but Gollini had his moment in the penalty shootout against Wolves. Just seems a bit odd that everyone’s writing off a 26 year old backup GK who has barely played. It’s hard to make an assessment of course, and I assume Conte will draw on his knowledge of the player from his time in Italy when it comes time to decide if we make the loan permanent.
The hive mind has decided that he's not very good, and won't shift from that opinion until he has a worldie every time he starts - which, of course, won't happen as he's a loanee Also, he's not dreamy like Gazzaniga
If the transfer window closes on Feb 1, then you can mix celebrating Conte departing together with the Chinese new year.
Since the phrase "transfer meeting" keeps coming up, with Dan Kilpatrick, Alasdair Gold and Jonathan Veal all using it in the past few days, I have one obvious question: are we supposed to believe that Conte hasn't given a list of instructions to Paratici at any point in the last two or three weeks? I'm willing to believe there hasn't been a sitdown with the board in December due to the combination of a Covid outbreak coupled with playing five games in thirteen days as if that arrangement is remotely ****ing normal, but surely between Conte and Paratici they've been on the blower to Levy to say we need to sign X, Y and Z?
Sounds like Paratici/ Conte’s added Middlesbrough's strength and conditioning coach, John Thrower, to the backroom staff.
He's posted it on his Instagram, apparently: https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport...rough-tottenham-hotspur-john-thrower-22643371
I'm impressed with Conte's post-match comments. No bullshit here...just laying out that we're a long, long way from where the club's owners say they want to be and there's a massive amount of work to get back to there. “You have to be disappointed for sure but on the other hand, you have to understand there is an important difference. I know this. This game confirmed what I thought about the difference between the teams but we need to have patience. There is a lot of job to do in many aspects. I think honestly that in this moment and the last years the level of Tottenham has dropped a lot. Now you have to rebuild. You need patience and time. We have to know the situation. The situation is very clear. I understand that it’s not simple to understand, especially for the fans. We’re working a lot to try to fight in the league. But at the moment we’re in the middle. Our situation is this. We’re in the middle. This is part of a process and I repeat: I want to be very clear, in these games that we played since I was in charge, if you analyse the games, we struggled. Every game we struggled. We have to know this. We have to be realistic. We have to know that this season to get three points for us will be difficult. But we have to be ready to do this with all our strengths and our fans have to stay with this in the way we’re ready to do. They’re fantastic, but I want to tell the truth and be clear with our fans. We’re in the middle and we need time. This is the situation. We need to work hard for 24 hours a day but we have to know there is a lot, a lot to do to rebuild the situation in a positive way. I also want to be very clear – if we think, with the transfer window in January, we solve the situation, I’m telling you a lie, not the truth. First of all, in January it’s very difficult to buy. Very, very difficult. Then you have to see if there’s the possibility to buy players that you need. We have to continue to work hard in the way we’re doing and improve the level of our players. Then if there are some opportunities and the club is convinced by these opportunities to improve the team…but I don’t see in the transfer window the resolution of our problems. The resolution of our problems is to work and improve many aspects of our squad. I repeat there is a lot of job to do. If you think if you buy one or two players are solve the situation, you are not right. There is not only a problem of mentality here. If you want to stay at this level, look at Chelsea. Last season they won the Champions League and this season they invested much money to improve the team. This is enough to understand the difference at this moment between us and them. But I repeat, we need so much time. Believe me. We need so much time before we [repair] the situation. You can’t [repair] the situation in only six months or one year. But I think I have a bit of experience to tell you and also to speak. We need to stay united and try to rebuild an important situation for Tottenham. Now we’re in the middle. This is the truth. We’re in the middle.” He seems pretty accepting of how bad things are and what's ahead of him and is looking for the fans to back him and show patience and for the owners of the club to get ready for a busy summer, because attempting to address all of our weaknesses in January just isn't going to happen. For what it's worth, I agree with him completely. We've been off course and on the decline for 3 or 4 seasons. That's not going to get put right any time soon. I just hope that he's here long enough to get it done.
Conte had already effectively asked in public the question of what has happened to the Spurs of 2017, who pushed his Chelsky team hard for the 2nd half of the PL season. For me the PL campaign is very simple : Conte has to make his teams chase the PL top 3 as hard as possible, and when the dust settles come the end of season perhaps Spurs will emerge in 4th place. To that end I would advocate the late Wenger era model : 1, be good enough to spank teams in the bottom 2/3rds of the PL, 2. effectively write off results against the recent top 5 as losses and that should get the pts for 4th place Currently we are not doing #1 well at all, but Conte may have the nous to rectify it with the squad he has.
It's Ok he won't win it, he who must be called 'Pep' won every match in December and will surely be the winner
Skyte Sports say that Conte has had his fabled transfer meeting with the board Again, are we supposed to believe that there hasn't been back-and-forths with Conte and Paratici, and Paratici and Levy, for the past few weeks?
I'm not remotely impressed and he sounds a lot like Mourinho. I'm quite sick of these highly-rated, defensively minded managers coming in, taking lots of money and passing the buck. He ****ed it up last night. It's that simple. Don't throw the players under the bus. Take the blame. The lineup and system were wrong and we got utterly outplayed. He changed it in the second half and we improved. Hold your hands up and admit your mistake.
