A 5.8 would be a damn improvement on what he's dropped the last couple years <laugh>

For anyone who likes the All or Nothing documentaries on Amazon, there was one on Juventus last season that I wasn’t aware of. I’m giving it a watch to see if Don Fabio features prominently.

Seen a lot of talk about it on Twitter, might give it a watch soon. Enjoyed the Spurs and City ones.

The club, in the last years, has been slipping. When I was at Chelsea, Tottenham was very competitive. To lose important players or someone became old and then to have a change of generation. Tottenham now is paying for this.
    ——————————

Conte dropping some truth bombs. Only thing he missed is the bit about how shabby our recruitment’s been in that timeframe. We seriously need to back him, he knows what needs to be done, certain of it.

Dan KP says that Conte has offered Steven Bergwijn a chance to revive his Spurs career - as Harry Kane's understudy, as Conte prefers Son in the free role on the left

In other words, he's trying to Depay him

Given he literally said in a presser the other day that he thinks Stevie can play anywhere across the front 3, this is likely true.

I mean that is a better return than some strikers we've had...

Yeah I know, not exactly the most promising is it <laugh>

This is probably something that’s being considered that was referenced loosely in an interview that will be binned off after they realise very quickly that it’s nada good

And didn't first 3 come in his first half dozen games? I like him and had great hopes for him when he signed, but he has done nothing in the last year to offer any credence to these comments about being Kanes understudy.

Realistically the best reason to consider Bergwijn up front is he has that half yard burst of speed that can help him break lines

Although on the subject of lines, reading between them the main thing which stands out is that Dele doesn't seem to have been considered

That's a fair comment and I would like nothing more than to see him prove me wrong, he is quick and he does have 2 good feet, but confidence seems to be an issue for him.

But he has a month before we can sign a back up striker in order to prove he can do it (if he is given any chances). And you never know he could score a couple and with his confidence boosted be the player we need, but I am afraid that is said more in hope than expectation.

Completely agree. I see the sense in trying it due to a lack of other options, but I’m not optimistic it’ll work out. Would love it to, though.

I'd rather we invested in Markanday for the time being, or Scarlett when fit.

Get them actually in the first XI when chances arise. Whilst game time in general is important and good for development, I think young players will always struggle to impress in rotated teams where all of the players aren't used to playing with one another, Scarlett's looked out of place in his ECL appearances and Gil (when thrown to the right) has also done little. How often did Kane impress as a youngster? It was only in his breakthrough season where he really started shining in a rotated side which was about 4 or so years after his debut (with a few loans in between), then he got picked over Soldado and Ade in the league and the rest is history.

Give the young players chances alongside our better players, in their natural positions and I'd be confident a good few could step up. I'm not even saying they'll be as good as Kane, players like Kane come through your academy roughly once every thirty or so years if you're lucky but there's no reason we can't produce a few first team calibre players to make some level of impact. Said it before but I want us to reach Chelsea's current level, they're either producing first team players or players who are making them lovely profits, we'll never do that if our lads don't get the chances.

It's hard to read too much into Bergwijn's stats under Mourinho.
He was being played as some sort of wingback in a very defensive side.
Virtually all of our goals came via Son, Kane, Bale and occasionally Moura.

It is worth mentioning his early goals all came when he was playing as a LW as Son was playing up top due to Kane being out injured

So if we can find a way to play with three left wingers to get Son, Bergwijn and Gil in the team, I think we might be onto something...

Interesting quotes here, particularly on Rodon, who is clearly the backup to Dier in Conte’s mind.

On the subject of Bergwijn, this is worth a look...

He's really not a traditional winger at all. He drifts out wide, on either side, but is always looking to drive towards goal. He'll operate happily in a more central role, with is back to goal, if needs be. Harry Kane, he isn't but he could offer something, if Conte can repair the lad's confidence to what it was when we signed him

Yes, it's in Dutch football, which comes with significant caveats...but it could just work....
