How was it dragged out? Paratici gave his notice at Juve on May 26th, and was announced as our new DoF on June 12th - albeit he doesn't get his feet under the desk on July 1st. That's two weeks, so hardly dragging out, especially given he's serving notice so is basically telecommuting Baldini was the same (and hopefully that's the only time that phrase gets used...) as he left Roma on June 5th 2013 and was announced as our DoF on the 19th, although LAdPCeV-B was angling for a DoF a month earlier so the obvious question there is if we were looking at any other prospective DoFs in that time On the other hand, Comolli was unveiled on September 1st 2005...which was the day after the transfer window closed, and also the best part of three months after the Chavs tapped up Arnesen and just over two months after Arnesen left
Gerrard could be Paratici’s surprise strike, whatever that means! Probably lost himself in translation and means Gerrard will come out of retirement and be our new striker once City have nabbed Kane, lol.
First of all, that is an obnoxious amount of hashtags to have in such a short tweet, which looks uncannily like the guy's trying to piggyback onto the search algorithm More importantly, though, the Gerrard talk is coming from some sketchy sources, as the earliest whispers came from BetVictor, while more recently it's been the Star (and signal boosted by their Spurs blogger, a certain Baddiel-faced bullshit merchant...) and Calcio Mercato, who are the journalistic equivalent of somebody down the pub starting a conversation with the words "I reckon..."
You’re cherry picking dates to suit your view. Mourinho left in April, Paratici wasn’t announced until mid June and won’t start until next week. We’re now approaching 70days I think with no permanent manager. Dragging on is being polite tbh.
How am I cherrypicking data? There was no suggestion of us bringing in a DoF in mid-April, the talk at that point was about a new manager based of Hitchen's shortlist, a shortlist which (unfortunately) seems to have been binned by bringing in Paratici
Why is 70 days a long time to recruit a senior staff member on a contract worth tens of million? Isn't it important to get it right?
Of course the main thing is to get it right. That said, name me another top side (Spurs aspire to be one) that would take so long to appoint a manager.
That just makes it sound like Spurs had no plan when they binned Jose, even though it was obviously for quite some time before he was sacked that he was going have to be relieved of his duties.
They did have a plan, Nagelsmann And then at least two spanners got thrown into the works on that plan
Fair enough they planned to make him the next manager and obviously once the Munich job came up then he was a no goer. Why did Spurs (Levy) then decide to go the DoF route 2 months into a managerial search?
That's what I touched on a couple of days back Hitchen supposedly drew up a list that included ten Hag, Potter, Flick (surely a no-goer even then, but that's not important right now...) and a cheeky bid for Poch, and we certainly made an approach for at least one name on that list at the time Which begs the obvious question when a DoF entered the frame, since we were at the very least in early talks with ten Hag towards the end of April, while Paratici wasn't on the market until the end of May, meaning there's a period where we went from Plan A to drawing up a completely different Plan B, which also begs the question what triggered that switch Anyone else get the feeling that Gary Neville might have something to do with that?
This is why I get frustrated with Spurs, they don’t seem to have any plan. If he had sacked Mourinho and then decided to go for a DoF then I would understand that. But they sacked Jose and then looked like they wanted another manager but then changed completely (after the Poch return rumours) to now wanting a head coach to work under a DoF which is completely differently to a manager.
The obvious thing there is that, when we sacked the ubermensch we had to make a choice: if we wanted a DoF there and then the only option available was Luis Campos (and, on a sidenote, anyone find it odd that he left Lille last December and still hasn't got a club?) or we would have had to wait because if we made an approach for a Paratici, Monchi, Rangnick etc they wouldn't have taken over until the end of the season at the earliest - and I don't mean until the last fixture had been played, I mean the end of the season as is the case with Paratici This is why I think Gary Neville forgetting he said this... ...has something to do with our switch from having a head coach to having a DoF, and considering the earliest whispers of Paratici coming in started a couple of days after he announced he'd be leaving Juve The obvious question is why, although there's a couple of obvious answers. The one Sky pundits will say is "Because he wants to spend the Kane money", but since the oil barons are being cheap bastards yet have the nerve to say they'll walk away if we don't accept their derisory offer that has so many ****ing catches that's not exactly much Kane money The other obvious one is the rebuild, because we want to bring in a handful of first team-ready players in a short space of time and need somebody to grease the wheels, in much the same way we had Pini Zahavi on a retainer in the summer of 2019 to get Ndombele and Lo Celso across the line, although as I posted a few weeks back Juve fans are reasonably unanimous in saying that Paratici isn't particularly good at moving player out as that was Giuseppe Marotta's job, and that's why Juve's transfer policy was so effective for a few years as Marotta and Paratici basically worked as filters for one another and less effective when Paratici did Marotta dirty to take his job and, as a result, removed the filter Which is why I ask the same question I did then: who would be the filter for Paratici at Spurs? Hitchen? Levy? Alasdair Gold?
Do you think Levy switched to the DoF route because Paratici unexpectedly came up as available and if he hadn’t then he would have stuck to the manager route?
Most of the chatter from reliable sources suggested that having a DoF was always the go-to option following Levy's DNA letter ahead of the Villa game. The impression was that Levy (3 years too late) has finally woken up to the reality that it isn't humanly possible to manage a 62,000 seater events arena, a global brand name, a potential NFL franchise, look for stadium sponsors, map out a plan to repay £1billion debt, redevelop half of N17 and build a golf course all at the same time as micro-managing on pitch affairs and joining Danny Rose for coffee and a croissant every morning while discussing news from Milan. The only exception to this assumption was Poch coming back as he doesn't like the DoF setup and would have vetoed the idea as a condition of his return. This is also what caused a delay in moving for Paratici, since it took a good week or two to approach Poch and subsequently be told to go forth and multiply by PSG. Most fans also seem to be in agreement that a DoF is necessary, although I have to say if Paratici's shortlist consists of Fonseca, Gattuso and Santo, I'd begin to question his competence before he's even sat down in his office. I agree with HBIC - for all the stick I've given Hitchen over the years, a shorlist of Poch, Ten Hag, Flick and Potter makes a hell of a lot more sense.
