To be frank IMO it’s OTT and getting on my wick. I’ve had it with those 2 yanks and their luvvy mates. Ok they’ll be playing now in Division 4 after yonks in Division 5, well done, move on and to those Wrexham fans just get over yourselves.
They've really caught the imagination across the pond. Not only good for the footy club but good for the region. Unbelievable how many yanks are visiting the area. Looks like the actors are trying to make Wexham the USA's British club. Move over Manure.
I’ve always followed the Welsh teams progress and like them all to do well, except from the JB’s of course. Enjoyed the game last night and what a cracking first goal for Mullin. I know it’s a big step up but I wonder could he do a job for us. I’m sure some teams will have him in their radar when he’s available.
Much the same might be said about us and our Malaysian benefactor. He saved us from a fate very like that suffered by Wrecsam and they are now climbing out of the mire. In some way, nicer to see a couple of ordinary Joes doing it and getting involved in a big way with good community support rather than rich sheiks or a bunch of US actors who are not involved at all. Of course, there are tax benefits and maybe a payoff too with some success. Swans were sold to the actors on that basis but the upside for them is much much more cost to get it. Wrecsam was a fine choice and a few more copycats could do no harm. it's very organic growth.
Love the Wrexham thing, love Swansea and Newport too, two great goals from Mullin. Cardiff have destroyed a lot of players over the years…wouldn’t wish us on him!
Have to say, I'm pleased for the club and their "genuine" fans. Personally I'm up for as many Welsh clubs as possible returning to the football league. BUT The "fairytale" Wrexham story is of course anything but... At least, once you get past the fact that a seemingly random, small club has been taken over by big name celebs. Since then it's mostly been about spending power beyond their rivals, end of. You can't blame them for doing it... ANY club that can afford to buy better players than their rivals will give it a go and will be happily cheered on by a growing fan base as success ensues. My gripe really is that this also represents some of the worst of modern football. If it had been local business folks that had bought the club and taken them to promotion then it would have been the usual footnote in the records and newspapers. Sprinkle a bit of celebrity endorsement on the whole thing though and suddenly a non-league team climbing back into the football league is a Hollywood story for all to regale in and be associated with..... It's a sad reflection of football mirroring life in general these days. Celebrity and exposure is more important than any underlying history and reality.
Agree Brizzle. As I’ve said before, football is all about money. As I’ve also said before I’d rather watch my team struggling in the Championship than follow the oil rich plastics. Having said that it would be nice if we could get someone to invest a little bit so we could become more competitive. What about starting with a sponsor for our stadium? Only Spurs and us have no income from this. The Cardiff City Mars Bar stadium? The Cardiff City Anne Summers stadium? Hell I don’t care what it’s called if it helps us buy a couple of decent players. I wonder if our so called board have thought of this?
I think that was considered when the stadium was built but nothing acceptable came along. Would be cheap as chips at the moment. Missed the boat with 2 Prem promotions.
It was almost criminal to mess up the first attempt (Dalman appointment of OGS) but to do it twice was unforgivable- it’ll be a long time if ever before we get another chance. Looking at the way a club like Brighton has been transformed is galling but to them for doing it.
There's an element of truth to this but then look at Salford. Also Notts County gad a marvellous stadium built for them by Nottingham City Council with EU money.....and having seen Chesterfields new stadium I was shocked. 10000 capacity.... brand new.....and no expense spared. What zwrexham have done coming from virtual bankruptcy is immense...and yes the owners have boosted income....but it IS organic in many ways. 3 million jn but that covers ground purchase and two new playing surfaces.....as well as the start of a new stand.......and usefully contributed via a natty series.
Completely agree with everything you say FFB and it's great news for Wrexham that the ground is back in "its" ownership. I've no doubt , having watched the first series of the programme that the new owners are doing an awful lot of good for the club and the area in general, but.... To sum it up nicely, in the build up to their promotion clinching game, I saw a news article on national news (no, no just Welsh TV but nationwide coverage) which in itself is odd for a club at that level, but, during the article they interviewed a woman and her young child about the game (she was going) and her response was... "I know nothing about football but it's great, I'm going just in case I get to meet Ryan Reynolds". That for me is like going to concert, for a group you have no idea about because you hope to bump into the tour manager.... THAT'S the kind of ridiculous "celebrity hungry" fans that are attaching themselves to the club that no one really wants to see but will continue to do so given the owners profile... absolutely nothing to do with the game and worse than the "plastic" fans that attach themselves to clubs like ours when things are going well but desert in droves when it goes wrong..
Wrexham open bus top celebrations details announced if anyone’s interested https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/wrexham-fc-announce-open-top-26788050
I can be there in 40 mins from home. In fact, I'll be driving down the A483 heading to fish Lake Vyrnwy early tomorrow morning and will be able to see their ground as I pass. Not been to the ground since the last time we played them there in 2001. Well, last time for football. Watched a Wales A rugby game there the following year.
LAst time I was there was looking at Bersham tip!!! Before, that, was down Bersham.....interesting little pit!!!
BBC Wales fawning over the Wrexham celebration bus parade. I don't recall them doing similar item when Newport returned to the Football League having come from a much worse position, going bust and rising from the ashes and not having Hollywood money and the accompanying publicity machine behind them. Yes, Newport had money from a local Lottery winner but that didn't last long and he moved on after a couple of years, since passed away. They have since survived and done okay under their own steam with average 4k crowds and a couple of good cup runs. Let's see how Wrexham are lauded when they get into the much tougher League 2 and Deadpool and his buddy get bored with a tired North Wales town.
