Brenda certainly took advantage of Fergie retiring, Mourihno restarting and Pellegrino being an affable fool. He still ****ed it up at the last though.
We spent £63m and challenged for the title, four points off the top. We finished 14 points off the top the previous season. A Champions League semi is better than a Europa Cup win for Chelsea. Maybe it is different for United fans, starved of European success
The simplest way to answer this question is to ask "If clubs were offered their current positions at the start of the season, would they have taken it?" Imo it would have gone as follows: Chelsea: Yes (obviously) City: No (would have expected to battle for the title) Arsenal: Yes (much better than the usual scramble for 4th) United: Yes (CL qualification is the only thing that matters after missing out before, regardless of how we stuttered at times.) Liverpool: No (would have expected to battle for CL places) Spurs: No (would have expected to battle for CL places) Saints: Yes etc.
Not too bad. The one I had over the weekend was a killer. It hurt so bad I imagine I felt like the average Liverpool fan over the past 25 years
United would have taken that 4th place at the start. Yes, many would have been hoping for better. The reality is that the club spent big to optimise their chances that this will happen. Just like the RS spent big only to drop several places from a 2nd place. The RS fans who support Brenda (like the Turd) are in a quandary. If they say that last season's runners up place was an overachievement, a blip, then they accept that the true and acceptable place for the RS is really around 6-7th (which is the average for the last 6 years). If they say the runners up place last season where they should be then this season is a massive flop and the club has slumped. Either he is going downhill or he is stuck in mediocrity. Take your pick... .
