I seem to recall some fans were calling for Charlton to get Pardew in before we did eventually get him.
Understandably many thought he could save us from relegation from the Prem.

Chris Powell's appointment came as something of a surprise (well, to me anyway).
I was pleased to hear that it was Powell coming in at the time, but also I felt for Phil Parkinson. PP was doing a decent job in my view, and did not deserve to lose his job just because of a change of ownership.

I hope that the talk about the Consortium trying to persuade Chris Powell to walk out on Southend and return to Charlton as their first manager was just rumours, some ammunition for those fans who don't like the Aussies for some reason and maybe don't like Powell either.

I should have paid more attention to the Latin classes at school.
I get it now, beware of Greeks bearing gifts.

An interesting comment from a hitherto serious poster on CL this morning. He claims to have been contacted by Gerard Murphy over a year ago to discuss a “pie in the Sky” consortium to buy an unspecified football club. The lower end of the financial input required was said to be “£3-5m”.

Perhaps the EFL are not keen on this Consortia type ownership structure and this is why they asked the Aussies to go away and think again.

It's all too sussy for me.

Between whoever is made of the interested parties, it would suggest that they are struggling to get the dough together. I am NOT supporting Dushitelet here but it all appears that he has said I want X pounds and has stood his ground.

If my view is correct I'd rather the deal collapsed and waited for somebody else to come in.

Not "ITK" in any way, but I've shared the messages that today is Sh1t or Bust Day for the Aussies.

    Not before time.

Whoever takes over I am certain the terms of purchase are going to be very unsatisfactory for the supporters.

    Hard to disagree.

There is a 3rd scenario - that the bidder waiting in the wings has the cash and will keep the club united with the Valley and the training ground. That 3rd bidder won’t arrive any time soon though, so we would face going into a 5th season with Duchatelet and with him hellbent on costcutting.

I think at that point I will be investing in our relegation odds.

Never a better time than now, as the odds will shorten as the season progresses. It's a tough one though, investing in Charlton's failure, but very tempting as it's hard to imagine 4 teams being weaker than we are atm.

The budget has shrunk year on year to pay the price of Duchatelet’s failure ...hard to see anything other than a season of struggle. Bowyer says he would prefer to work with a smaller squad <yikes> but what happens when injuries & suspensions bite. Ground hog Day.

But according to RD and the apologists, the failure is all down to protesting fans..<doh>

Bowyer now sounding like the previous managers...They've all tried putting a positive spin regarding the inevitable RD thin squad.

Is BowJackson morphing into the Scouse Gob?

Charlton’s first League One game of the season is a televised early kick-off against Sunderland, who have suffered back-to-back relegations, on August 4.

“It is two teams that are pushing for promotion,” said Bowyer. “Well, I know we will be. I don’t know what they are going to be this season, it is going to be different to what they have just played in – the Championship.

“To play against us in the first game isn’t going to be easy for them. We want to set our stall out early so people know what to expect.”

That's right the right buyers would've rubbed RD out of the picture ages ago.

Agree, RD is a nightmare but no point in jumping out of the frying pan into the fire...
