I honestly think we could have persuaded Sharp to come here, and I also think he'd fit far more easily into our team than Southampton's.
Power going to your head a bit, OLM? When you almost quit I was with the rest, saying you've done a good job etc, and don't get me wrong, you have, but this is ridiculous. Yes you're a mod but unless my memory fails me you were nominated, not appointed by some higher power. Therefore you should be in charge or sorting out the WUMs and stopping threads that go too far, not telling excellent contributors like ISTPLT off for having an opinion. You do absolutely **** all about the likes of doveston but you deem it necessary to send a public warning to someone who makes a point that is highly valid? Fryatt is far overrated and ISTPLT, like myself, is bored of the constant praise thrown his way, just because he finishes 1 of every 20 chances.
You'll have to try a lot harder to reach Doveston's level Don't worry Erik, if they ban you I'll quit in protest. Actually, I won't, because if I quit I doubt anyone would give a ****
Doveston's just a troll, whereas I'm miserable with a warped sense of humour. Anyway, Nicky, Y U NO BUY SHARP!?
I remember you telling us about someone giving you 'rep' and saying "I hope your children die at birth". That had me in stitches
It depends what you call chances. Not all shots are real chances, you can't base it all on stats. Ie a shot from 40 yards, a shot that is blocked less than a second after it leaves the players foot, an open goal shot from 3 yards and a penalty are all recorded as exactly the same thing. There's no way we created 16 real chances today. The difference playing two up top should make is an option for a pass rather than Fryatt having to attempt to worm his way through 3 defenders and shoot from a tight angle. Also, it should create more rebound opportunities as we rarely having anyone following up.
He wasn't the only culprit tonight I know, I only brought it up because people are forever having a go at me for criticising his finishing. I was particularly disappointed with Stewart's because from the glimpes we've seen, I thought he was pretty good at shooting but he went and did the 'run to the keeper but don't shoot' that we've become so familiar with this season. When this thread was made post-Donny (only a couple of weeks ago) it was about whether we could win the playoffs, most of us pretty much agreed we'd make the playoffs but most thought we wouldn't win them due to poor finishing. Now it's about whether we can get back into the playoffs and the automatic promotion debate is pretty much over. Agreed. The system suits the players and changing to two up front would mean moving Koren, and for what benefit? I do however think that we need to get more men in the box at times, particularly on crosses. Scumbag Barmby says Hull City don't need another striker. Fair point.
An older poster's gonna misunderstand that and metaphorically rape you. I personally think it's a fair point.
I understood the risk when I posted it. Hopefully this interchange will help people understand it's a joke.
Bollocks to that, we could have had Jason Roberts on loan if we'd got in there before Reading's takeover. Still, we don't need a striker with 3 goals and an assist in 4 games to give us a different option up front because we keep clean sheets.
What I find most startling is that we did sign a striker in the transfer window, we just signed the wrong bloody one. As I said before the ink was dry on his loan contract: Josh King is not a striker. He's a forward, who plays much in the same way as Robbie Brady. In the hole behind the striker, or out wide, but never up front. His goalscoring record, even for Man U reserves is piss poor. Why we couldn't go for one of the other Manchester United strikers like Will Keane or Davide Petrucci is beyond me. The lad Trotta that was at Fulham is available for loan I believe, he scored 8 in 8 at Wycombe earlier this season, has to be worth a gamble at least? But of course, any striker signed would mean that Matty Fryatt would have to sit out and he isn't playing badly at the minute. He makes his own chances, he doesn't always put them away but then Wayne Rooney doesn't score every opportunity he gets. Neither does Darren Bent. He's our joint top scorer, cut the lad a little slack.
Now you've mentioned him, the stupid thing is he's better in a striker role than the role he's playing (or now not playing). I've seen him properly up front playing well. I was even saying before we signed him that I hoped we wouldn't waste him playing him in a wide/withdrawn role because he's far less effective playing that way. So that's two people who could have played the lone role up front for us that we've missed out on. I don't know if it's worse that we didn't look at Roberts, or that we're choosing not to even try the one we've signed in the role.

Every opportunity that Fryatt gets is either his own creation or from Koren, because he gets **** all from Brady & Stewart. Brady shoots, every opportunity he gets, to the annoyance of everyone everywhere. He also likes to flash toothy grins to people in the stand for some reason. Lots of confidence, not backed up. And Stewart is a colossal fanny who needs to stop throwing his arms around, and try to be a little stronger. Neither are interested in providing for Fryatt, only themselves. Fryatt creates half-chances for himself all game and does incredibly well to shield the ball from burly centrebacks. That must be tiring for a whole 90 mins. It's not Fryatt's fault. He's a victim of the system we play.
