Tbf, our playing style does require a good playing surface, to maximise our potential. But we can play the rough stuff too, just that we don't like to. Inevitably, when we do move away from the style we've formulated to win games, by necessity, we are more vulnerable. Whether we get beaten is another matter. Along with his injuries observation, which can come at any time, and can be a simple result of bad luck, this has been my major concern as to the progress through the season. It's why my minimum expectation is playoffs, rather than top two, or even champions. Mind you, on the evidence of the game against Boro, there is a gulf in class between Saints and the rest, including WHU, so we may yet be fine.
Our style of beautiful football is reliant on a lovely pitch, but I don't think there are many rubbish pitches in the Championship. Deep in midwinter we may suffer a bit, but as long as we keep winning at home we'll be safe. Our pitch was magnificent on Saturday..you could have played snooker on it. Mowbray said that the pitch would be lovely and it was always sunny at Southampton..he was right there if not about anything else!
