Sounds like you are due a road trip Imaz. I'm a Londoner by birth and inclination, but have lived in a fair few places here and abroad. Everywhere has good bits and bad bits. Swansea has some issues admittedly - took my lad there to visit the University a few months back.. It was the only one ruled out purely on aesthetic grounds, even though it was easier to get into and cheaper than the alternatives. If he does well he'll end up in Sheffield or Leeds, hopefully the former, which is a nice town, very lively. Unless you want countryside no where compares to London though.
It can't be worse than Portsmouth, a place where the locals beat someone up for being a paediatrician and a tower block has its own job centre.
Back to topic. I think it's a fair OP awjm. Not sure it's necessarily because of cliques, but I think everyone can get better at including both new and existing users. In the spirit of the late BrixtonR, who was exceptional at this. To welcome, include, defend and encourage new users he was second to none. This is one of the biggest reasons this forum has so many good posters imho. I know I for one can get better at this. Thanks for raising the issue awjm
What??? You mean you're a bloke? I was sure with all the moaning you do that you were female (sorry Beth) Personally speaking though I'd consider myself a light user here but have never really felt ignored. My posts ARE generally top notch, fact filled and irrefutable though so understandable.
Monocultural in East Sussex??? where do you live as I have never seen where I am as a single culture rather an eclectic mix from all over the world. I mean I have friends from varying places in africa, asia, Australia, New Zealand, etc.
To be fair Eastbourne is by far the cleanest seaside town in the UK For those you know that part of the world they will also know Brighton and Hastings both of which are ruined IMO I travel back to Eastbourne as my sons all live there and it's beautifully refreshing ... All towns have **** bits but the west of Eastbourne at Holywell and in the meads is a place where Mrs DT are looking at property Wonderfully clean and an oasis in the UK South as it grows ever more densely populated
Haven't been there since the early Seventies - is East Dean still East Dean with a village green, pub and maypole in the middle of it? Or in some sort of Brighton to Eastbourne housing estate whre the residents go to Beachy Head to jump off it?
Meads is dead, completely dead. You tell me where one can buy 100 Bensons, a Mars bar and a packet of Rizlas after 5.30? Horrible town, Hastings and Brighton for all their many faults (and in Hasting's case severe deprivation) at least have some life to them.
East Dean is well posh. The east of Eastbourne is the so called rough part: Shinewater, Langney and then the shacks and caravans of the Normans Bay 'favela'. The town's awash with smack and crack, just like Worthing, another seaside dump.
Horrible country ... I like to flirt with Brighton but living there is very hard after a while IMO Tesco Extra in the meads now open tip 10 ... DT's tip ... Walk from Holywell to Cow Gap ... (watch the tides) walk towards the lighthouse until you find the secret sandy beach . I grew up there and at one time had a little prawning concern ... until Tesco's started doing them for 99p a ton ... When you get there take off your clothes ... watch the sun go down... chuck the ***s at the seagulls instead roll up the mars bar into a joint ... fire it up and stare at France
