I'd say that's more out of necessity. Other clubs have a number of message boards and fan sites. With CI and Amber Nectar going what else have we got?
The biggest issue is people continuing arguments, rather than just making their comments/burning the other person, then dropping it. They just wouldn't let it lie What pisses me off more are those who have to challenge everything with nothing but their opinion wrapped up as fact; gleaned from media gobbling and their over-riding need to try and prove they are more knowledgeable. This is separate from people being ITK which they really aspire to being, despite not being.
I find this board highly entertaining, yes the arguments get a bit stupid & then comments get cleaned up, only to start up again, but overall I think it’s a decent read! I can personally just skip the majority of a thread & see what the last few comments were, if it seems an interesting read, then I’ll go back & see how it was going, if it’s just stupid ****, I close it, come back another day. As for personal insults, this online Hardman act comes across like that video of 2 dogs growling at each other, either side of the fence, then the fence electronically opening & the dogs wagging their tails & coming out all soft & friendly. Of course they could be growling at the electronic fence & the video is just manipulating people into believing the dogs are just online Hardman equivalents!
Good point - some of the alternatives are really poor. Fans Forum on Facebook is a bit of a circus at times.
Whatever anyone thinks about this thread, I'm really happy with it as quite a few good posters have joined in. People who've been missing for a while.
I think the two differences with us and the FB page is that we are on average more genuine City fans than on there where you get far more casual observers just posting how **** they think City are and also the McCann v Arveladze bores and the lingering Allam lovers. The moderator Mark Walmsley is OK though.
I’ve noticed on Twitter how the perception towards Fans Forum has quickly changed and become much more negative towards it. So much so that some of those stopped posting on it and moved to Twitter.
I suspect you are right Kemps. Seems to be going down a similar path to CI. I must admit, the boring arguments have become really tedious, there's many a day I don't have a look. When I do, I cant be bothered to filter through the crap. I rarely contribute these days. With the end of season approaching, it'll be interesting where the board is at at the beginning of next.
The World is getting soft. I don’t notice the disagreements I couldn’t give a **** and if it’s derailing threads that’s what admin are here for. I don’t post much on here because it’s boring the season is finished not because ****s like Chazz post on here.
Possibly not just football Forums, the other forum I go on regularly for cycling has seen a steady decline in users, more squabbling, more 'moderating' & more people being offended by other posters, then one or more having a 'flounce' & leaving, whilst telling everyone they are leaving... Maybe part of the evolution of the Internet? The 'kids' are probably all on the dark Web anyways...
People are so easily offended nowadays. Most of us on here post garbage now and then so you get called out so what. Take it on the chin and move on nobody owes anybody anything on here .
With nothing on the horizon, it’ll still be here until everyone dies! New people will join, old people will leave! Even if something new comes along, it’ll just turn into this, if people stop posting here to go there, then nothing will change! I used to be on Vital Hull a lot, back in the day, but it died, because everyone was on here. Sometimes it really is, “better the devil you know!”
TBH I was tempted to post on this topic on another thread from yesterday. I feel largely like you do Kempton. The reason I didn't comment was down to expecting a load of **** coming my way for raising the subject. I don't understand the antagonism between people, but it seems represent the state of the world these days. There was a great thread yesterday where somebody was shouted down and abused simply for questioning progress under Arveladze. They weren't asking for him to to be sacked or hung drawn and quartered and then suspended off a lampost down Hessle Road, but for raising the questions the poor bugger got a load of ****. Maybe the moderators need to get involved more and take some action. There are some posters who clearly have a hobby horse about particular themes, but are without a coherent argument, and are clearly not interested in any sort of debate. The problem with the tone and attitude of certain individuals simply results on those on the other side of the table becoming more and more entrenched in their views. Their genuine views and opinions become a casualty as a result. There are a lot of sensible posters still on here, who see through a lot of the bullshit and bluster but it seems they are in a decreasing minority. I just used to read stuff on here for a lot of years before I even became a member (going back to the start of not606), and the general atmosphere is now what it was. I can't comment on other boards as I'm not interested in other clubs at all, but it would be nice to think that people can be more pleasant elsewhere some of the time at least.
