People with paid holidays ( annual leave ) Haven't had paid holidays since I was an apprentice. People who work for companies nowaday tend to be either permanent casual or contractors. Not too many of the old school left ............... very sad but we have to compete with third world countries who treat their staff like crap. That's progress for you.
I had a piece of Caramac the other day, taste has changed beyond recognition. My brother used to buy Vesta curries in the late 60's, I thought they were really posh and exotic at the time
TV programs that were not "sponsored by....." If you wanted to bet you had a choice of Ladbrokes or Coral or the pools man. Tickets for events that cost the price that printed on the ticket, without a mandatory 25% booking fee added on or a plucked from the air increase added by Via Go Go or similar.
Oh for the days when you could just rock up and pay your 1s 6d at the gate and straight in. I used to go to a match every week when I first started work. In 1970 I would see every Rangers home match and when we weren't at home me and a couple of mates would pick the best game on in London and off we went. Saw some great matches that season including Chelsea get smashed 5-2 by Leeds at the Bridge, over 60,000 in the ground that day squeezed in like sardines...
Watched a programme on BBC4 last night about the early days of Queen from 73 -75 and when they played the Hammersmith Odeon for 5 nights then did a live gig for telly from the Odeon on Christmas Eve. Now I'm not sure if the poster showing the prices related to those shows or some smaller pub gigs that they did but the ticket prices were 80p, £1 and £1.20.......the Odeon was a major concert venue in those days.......
That's the one mate. I used to remember rifling through the box of singles on the newsagent's counter and finding the odd gem for 50p. You needed the 45 rpm adaptor to play them though.
The Littlewoods Pools coupon. My grandfather would religiously check his every Saturday as the results were read out.
1001 cleans the big big carpet for less than half a crown And Whitbread Whitbread Trophy Bitter the pint that thinks it's a quart. Bum bum bum bum bum Esso blue
I remember as a kid my parents Those were the days, going out at 6 o'clock in the evening to pick them both up from the newsagent. I got my first job after having read the R's reports then going to the classified ads section, things aren't so simple these days
That truck would be stripped bare within 5 minutes of parking up on the White City Estate (or anywhere else) now
