Bruce will be in a real dilemma if Chiltons scenario above comes true, if Mcgregor did get injured tomorrow then he almost has to play Jak going on Sunday at Wednesday on Friday. Will he redeem himself against Wednesday on Friday? It did seem like he was up for the Oscars that match but then again the match reports suggest he actually was injured and not just his pride
Whats that saying, when you do right no one remembers but when you do wrong no one forgets. All keepers have their nightmare moments.
With Jak it feels like his first gaffe was so bad that people actually do forget his others. There's been several very bad ones from him and in so few games.
People forget Jak usually plays well in the big games. He's actually played a lot of games against the sky clubs, so would be pretty chuffed with how his career with us has worked out.
Just remembered that first minute howler v Southampton too when he gave it to Wanyama. Good luck to him if he plays in any of the matches coming maybe the Arsenal match will give him that bit of extra belief
To be fair wanyama scored from pretty far out. I remember in a game soon after a player had a similar opportunity with an open net and got nowhere near it. It was poor from Jak but also very well hit.
In his first season in England? Who gives a ****, if you're still basing your opinion of the bloke on an appearance 3 years ago (since then he's had some great games, Spurs away in the cup?) then give your head a shake. He won't depose Mcgregor, but I'd give him another year as back up.
Bruce talks of a need to have three keepers on the books, so really think we should be offering Jak another deal. I understand we have Watson and others coming through, but I wouldn't mind keeping him around for at least one more season. It's not like he'd cost much.
People also apparently forget that it was Brady's awful and unnecessary back pass (a hospital ball) that forced Jak into a hurried clearance with his wrong foot that made it impossible for him to get anything on the clearance which went straight to Wanyama. The following week McGregor made an even worse clearance under no pressure which went straight to an opposing player (shades of Lokeren!!) who missed the goal completely. Yet not one word of criticism of our No.1. Time for his knockers to forget a 3-year old blunder against the Wendies and remember how impressive he has been in our Cup games, culminating in the blinder last Saturday.
That might be the shot I was thinking of! I think people make too much of Jak's blunders. He's had a few absolute howlers, but then so has McGregor.
"To err is human". To be overly critical of the mistakes of others is often used to mask one's own inadequacies. Jak is no Petr Cech, but City are not exactly Chelsea (or Arsenal) are they ? He earned us a replay by having a stormer. That says a lot.
McGregor got slated to ****. The difference is, McGregor has had steady solid runs in the team, until this season Jakupovic had made an absolutely stinking foul error in just about every single appearance he'd ever made. I'd release Jak and find a nice young English goalie like that Bentley lad who can understudy and hopefully dislodge McGregor over a year or two.
Apart from pretty much every cup appearance, the second half against arsenal last season, and Liverpool last season.
It's only just occurred to me that we have three goalkeepers with Champions League experience. How strange.
Only a tiny percentage of footballers ever play in a Champions League game, so a Championship club having three keepers who all have, is a very rare occurrence.
