@Gordon Armstrong, Thought I would give this a try....Brewdog Black Heart. Very nice it is too....£4 for 4 at tesco. Used it through the Guinness nitrosurge device (need to puncture the top of the can with a pin to depressurise it....need to stop the widget activating....same with Guinness draught cans). Very smooth.
The boss is a 6'4" Commonwealth medal winner in Judo who had an important Judo UK 'black tie function' in Glasgow last night. Mrs Smug had gone shopping in Edinburgh, with his wife, and due back just before he left. The boss calls me, in a panic, when he realises his dress shirt is in his travel bag from the last function!!! We're in the middle of nowhere and it's Saturday so no chance of help. So, as I've always arrogantly done, decided I'd jump in and do it myself. FFS man, I'd rather dig a drainage channel through the woods! I washed it, dried it, starched it and ironed it following instructions on YouTube It's a full dress shirt with dozens of tiny pleats on the front, double back cuffs and a fold back collar ... ... I'm absolutely fu*king exhausted today, never again
Up until I was about 18 I did all my own washing and ironing, Chuck me another shovel and I will give you a hand.
https://news.sky.com/story/nitrous-...-clamp-down-on-anti-social-behaviour-12842786 About bloody time
I almost despise the kind of young people who's behaviour spoils the lives of other people. But it can't all be about bans, legislation and persecution. It doesn't work, there has to be some carrot to go with the stick. I'd had to be a poor kid growing up these days ... ... at least we were all in the same leaky boat, growing up, and didn't know any better.
I didn’t know we were poor, because although we had bugger all I had twice as much as all my mates. Didn’t realise that then though.
Thing is though, in those days nobody knew if you were well off or not because no one went about showing off the stuff you had - the only time you showed anything off was Xmas Day! Nowadays you see kids wearing designer clobber with the latest mobile and they are not even in their teens!
Can I ask a question...'does hand me downs' still exist? Can't recall seeing kids these days in ill fitting clothes, a snake belt keeping your older brothers trousers up, or even a bit of string!I Growing up with four older brothers I can still remember the odd red letter day when your mam bought you something brand new. Times have certainly changed and not always for the better...I sometimes sound like my dad and that's quite scary.
Yes , lots of well dressed kids with phones etc, yet the statistics and media tell us 1 in 4 children are in poverty . I don’t get it
We all sound like our dad’s going back through history mate . I used to get why can you not run up and down the street with a hoop and stick.
In the fifties and sixties people didn't travel much. We generally only left our pit village for a week in Cullercoats, a trip to Newcastle once a year and Durham Big Meeting. The community provided everything you needed from entertainment to religion to policing and so on. Any adult was free to check anyone's kids and give them a clip for really serious offences like going on their allotment
@Smug in Boots Me and my brother going to Monte Carlo in 3 weeks to watch the tennis open. Will be staying in Monte Carlo from Sunday-Tuesday. Where’s best for a drink and some nightlife? Is it best to go further afield or stay in Monte Carlo. Not to fussed on the prices as only going for a few days, just want a good time. cheers mate
All right mate, been a while, hope you're well. The train line, along the coast, is really good so you can jump on and off in places like Villefranche, good for seafront restaurants, Cannes, for the yachts and expensive shops, Antibes, lively and more down to earth. There's lots of Brits who work on the yachts etc. Lunch or early evening meal in the covered market is cheap and very cheerful. To be honest the nightlife of the Riviera isn't like the UK, Spain, etc, and Nice is probably the best for you, Irish.bars and the like plus loads of good restaurants. If you like pizza go to La Pizza which is huge and always busy. It's worth taking the short train journey to Vengtimiglia, Italy, especially on Fridays when there's a huge outdoor market, some good cheap gear, atmosphere and restaurants. Watch out for pickpockets and black lads selling fake designer gear that the police will confiscate. Monaco night clubs are a bit tame and can be very expensive. The best reasonable cost restaurants are on the left side of the slope down from Casino Square to the port. Also the area round the harbour in Fontvieille has good traditional food for the locals who work in the shops and offices there.it's a short walk to Monaco's stadium, in fact everything is a short walk in Monaco. If you fancy a look into the Hôtel de Paris, on Casino Square, where all the mad cars are, you'll have to get past the concierge who's no mug. Walk up and tell him you have a package to collect, from reception, from your boss, Mr Melnichenko ... he speaks a dozen languages so no bother. Walk in past the horse statue, rub its knee, and go to reception. Ask for the package, which they obviously won't have, say thanks and stroll out making sure someone is at the bottom of the steps to take your photo as the concierge opens the door and salutes you On that note, approach one of the super smart police and ask for directions to the Hermitage Hotel. He'll salute you, which I always found funny, or arrest you if you're wearing shorts with no shirt and refuse to leave the square. I spent my one and only night in jail, in Monaco ... too long a story for here, I'll tell you next time I see you. My cell mate was a fella from Lyon who'd done just that and was locked up, taken to court and fined a thousand francs! Hope you have a cracking time mate ... ... even in March it'll be sunny enough and busy enough
Banning Nitrous Oxide is no laughing matter. Seriously though, if the police were still allowed to give a clip round the lug I don't think we'd have half the problems we do now. Yes, there was a similar level of poor behaviour in the past but there was always a line for 99% of people and never such a complete lack of respect. Also if the police were allowed to police themselves properly they might be able to sort themselves out and earn that respect - do we seriously think that a bloke with the nickname 'the rapist' would have lasted a day in the seventies or eighties?
Jealous. Was googling that tournament at weekend, but hoping to do French Open. Not got my head around ticket prices/availability yet Have a great time!
