When I lived in the UK I regularly donated. Then in 2007 I moved to Australia where I wasn’t allowed to because of mad cow disease.
In 2022 they relaxed the rules meaning I could donate again. Since then Mrs K and me go every six weeks or so. Think we’ve donated about 15 times each by now. We will happily give blood but they told us to book in to give plasma as that’s what they always need. If they want blood (album name there somewhere) they just tell us on the day.
It’s worth it just for the scran they put in afterwards. And the nurse who normally sticks the needle in is originally from Sunderland.
But in all seriousness as you say if it’s something that if you can do then you should. I’d like to think that if it was me lying on the operating table needing it then it’s there.

Just been on donors website and it says you have to be under 64.
The lass next door is 74 and donates regularly so I'll have to look into it.
I used to go years ago but had to stop due to meds I was taking which I don't now, pleased to see this on here I'll give it a go if accepted.

I've rung them Cumbrian, bit confusing via google. If never donated before, max is 66. Up to 70 and a previous donor 0k to continue, if healthy, ( but think you must have donated successfully in previous 2 years). May be exceptions if you are rare. She told me that because I'm B- I can ring a separate B- telephone number where they will get me into a session which is fully booked as they are desperate for it. (Venues are taken off app when booked up). Give them a ring though to be sure

Genuine question, do some of these Just Eat delivery drivers get their cars from a scrap yard or do they just meet up for a destruction Derby once a week? Some of the cars are on the road look like a gust of wind would rip off the gaffa taped on bumpers, bald tyres etc. It's a wonder you don't see many at the side of the road pulled over. saying that, I was at the junction just of the spier bridge last week, 3 scrambler bikes came flying from the bridge straight up the bank past sainsbury's... did the copper sat at the lights give a f**k? Did he f**k. Also, these very expensive ebikes they flee about on, do they not have to follow the rules of the road? Bit a of an observation and rant at the same time.

On the final point - E-bikes , e-scooters and all sorts of electric powered motor bike like machines which are appearing - there seems to be an attitude growing that as long as it’s not a petrol motor , then no registration, licence or insurance needed ( or lights) and free to use either road or pavement as required.

Brill. For such an easy thing to do it gives a great feeling of helping others . As GA said, nice to get the text later , giving an idea of how or where it’s going to be used .

I was over the pond a few weeks back and we got ubers around LA for the day. We got picked up for our trip up to Griffith Observatory in an absolutely knackered Prius. Every warning light on, kangaroo patrol, driver clearly falling asleep so I was coughing loudly every two minutes. I'd have told him to stop and gotten out if I wasn't worried about getting murdered in the hood.

We were at Auckland Castle today, Bishop Auckland where there is an archaeology dig going on.
Prof. Alice Roberts was there filming an episode of Digging for Britain. Lovely lady.
She'll be there tomorrow until lunchtime if anyone is interested.

I used to go regularly and I'm O-neg so the blood donors loved me! I wasn't allowed to donate after I was diagnosed with Crohns. Stupid autoimmune disease.

Those bowel screening tests aren't much fun are they?

**** in a box or use toilet paper to 'catch it'.

Not at the velocity and ferocity mine comes out at. Most dignified.

I have to submit regular stool samples.

I've got an old plastic measuring jug that I use. The bairn refers to it as Mam's poo jug. I keep it upstairs so it doesn't get mixed up with the kitchen jugs.

We have a blue tit nest that is perfectly placed so the magpies and crows can't get to it.

The parents have been bringing their chicks, two at a time, to teach them how to use the bird feeder.

    It's wonderful and heartwarming ...

.... bloody expensive though, since all the various chicks started fledging I can barely keep up <laugh>
