This This This! If anyone doubts what LFC means to Dalglish the do your homework or simply look at the emotion in his eyes when we won the CC. Give the man a chance FFS!? - even if we crash out of the FA cup 9-0 to Everton, Dalglish has my unwaivering support for a good while yet. It's a project and this is the start of it - we will never get where we want to be by demanding immediate success - just look at Chelsea.
Think I've something along these lines on here before but here goes again. Everyone (opposing fans) were saying "Dalglish has been out of the game too long, it's a bad move taking him back!" Well on that basis, and this I strongly feel is the basis we should all be judging the man, we should class KD as a new manager. It's all changed at Anfield since KD was first in charge. New owners, new players, new back room staff so he is pretty much a new manager. Now, with this in mind, as a new manager, winning a cup and getting us to a semi final of another, is a pretty ****ing amazing success story. I appreciate we are where we are in the league and it doesn't look good - This will improve and as long as any players brought in during the close season, know where the net is and we can maintain the style of play we have adopted for the majority of this season, this should improve in the next season! Look at KD as a new manager not someone returning because that's not the right way to look at it. Give the guy credit for the work he has put in to the team gettign them developing as a unit and not a group of individual players. All should come good!
You have got a point. But the goals and points are important. There is no point playing 'better' football if at the end we lose, like in the last two matches. I despair with some of the arguments being used on this board. Kenny does the same thing too. It is like a surgeon saying: the operation was a huge success, we did very well but shame that the patient died. Ultimately what you are judged on is not the pretty passing, the chances, shots, corners but on the wins. That is why someone like Mourinho is so successful. He never lose sight of what it is ll about. Winning!
It's hard to argue with your points made about goals and winning games as we all appreciate that ultimately it is a results business pure and simple. However you could change your analogy about the surgeon slightly....imagine a surgeon half way through an operation gets dragged out of theatre and kicked the crap out of, there is an increased likelihood that the patient will die surely....at least give the surgeon a chance to finish the operation before you judge it a success or a failure As for Maureen, ask yourself what legacy he leaves behind after he's gone. Is it better to have a few good years with a manager like that but watch it all fall down after he leaves or is it better to have someone who builds a solid base that can lead to sustained success over a long period after they've gone Just a thought.
Well just give me the examples who have tried and succeeded then. Other than ManU who do you consider have?
Depends what you consider a measure of success these days. If it's only winning the league then United are the only ones but isn't that exactly because they've been playing the long game for years. Had they been impatient with Fergie at the start they'd never have had the success they've had. If success can be measured in getting into a top four spot every year, whilst building and paying for a new stadium then Arsenal can be thrown in there too.
Look, you're the one who said 'or is it better to have someone who builds a solid base that can lead to sustained success over a long period' I am just asking you for examples of that in the last 20-30 years. I'm not arguing with you I just want what YOU consider have been the clubs that have done it.
Hence why I asked how YOU measure success. Personally I would measure it in cup wins, champs league qualification, financial stability, youth development but mainly league positions so Utd are the only ones who have planned well enough to consistently finish high in the league. They planned long term and look how it's paid off.
So let me get this right. The ONLY team you can think of who have achieved the longterm base for continued success is ManU. And as for your comment about JM not leaving a base for success isn't it exactly the opposite. He gets teams to the top. It is for the managers, players and owners to keep them there not him.
And I see you progressed all the way to 8th today too. I wonder if you'll progress out the top half. IKWT.
You misread my analogy, which were for matches as operations NOT the whole team's season. If we pursue the same analogy, if a surgeon kept claiming the operations (matches) were successful and that he and his team performed well but the patients kept dying (that is the matches are lost) wouldn't we cheesed off and said 'you are having a laugh surely'. Would you let a man like that do your operations? We are prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt but the patients need to survive soon otherwise the hospital will go under and the people will be in uproar.
Are you dropping hints here that I should be saying Jose built a team with a long term plan? The man who has worked for such patient employers as Abramovich, Moratti and currently Perez goes into jobs with long term plans? You have got to be kidding right. You think I should add Chelsea to a list of clubs who plan long term? Now that's a ****ing beauty. Maureen is brilliant at what he does and I am by no means criticising him for that, I am but a mere fan (as are we all). Am I saying it is easy to plan long term in football? No. Am I saying we will be successful at it? No. Am I saying it's worth a try? Yes. Would I rather we had patience and tried to build something for the long term that will see us never have to go back to the state we were in last year? Again yes I would. Do you find a common sense approach hard to understand? I reckon you do eh.
I guess it all depends on the faith you are willing to put in the surgeon then eh. No-ones died yet and this particular surgeon has proven his skills before unlike the next one you might get...or the one after that....then the one after that Bear in mind also that the patient very nearly passed away last year and is now stable at least
