Pretty sure God has Special Powers. Having created light in the first place, I reckon he'd be able to put Bruce Lee's lights out. He might struggle with Mike Tyson though
The NHS is ****e. Every **** I know who goes into hospital gets fked about. Mick's way is "but the USA" but there are countless other permutations that our NHS could adopt. I think the NHS is great at life-saving but a lot of other things, they are **** at. Monopolies breed inefficiencies and you can take that to the bank. Anyone with basic understanding of economics knows that. The NHS costs people a fortune, not just now, but for years to come once half the staff retire and the state is fked paying FS pensions agreed on the never-never. Sure, people like the NHS, but at what cost? There will be a time in the not-so-distant future where it will need to be pared back because the UK literally can't afford it with all the trimmings. FTP
The Canadians have it sussed. They've basically split their version of the NHS into provinces which are pretty much independent of each other. Needs to be more autonomy here in the UK for regional NHS branches.
Unless you want to get rid of strict medical licensing there will always be a degree of monopoly, especially with self interested doctors controlling the licensing boards - the question is if it's private or public monopoly. Even if the market could make the health service better for a majority of people - making it worse for a minority of people (who can't pay) is morally unacceptable. Anyway I'm not adverse to the Tory idea of copying the Swedish model of having private contractors compete to supply various NHS services (it sounds like it could work in theory, at least), as long as it's socially funded and open to all.
I don't think the poor should have to pay for healthcare. But you seem incapable of seeing how inefficient the 3rd largest employer in the world is. The health care budget has tripled in 10 years, and it still screams "MOAR MOAR". When is enough, enough? Well the answer is never of course. Unless you want to turn the UK into a giant hospital that is. I've recently enquired about private health insurance, for4 employees and their families, there was quite the disparity between quotes, meaning not much of a carve-up/monopoly and it was coming in at roughly £200 per month, now as an example, if I'm paying one of my approved plumbers £16ph, and he's paying £80 per week on NI, and the company is paying £100 per week on top of that Employers NIC, then there's £180 that could be greatly decreased if we had the option of opting out the NHS (bar emergencies). The NHS is bloated, inefficient and offers poor service and a poor return because it's a monopoly. FTQ
I just provided a link which indicates otherwise. I'm not dogmatic and I'm not all in on this, I would certainly change my mind if presented with contradictory evidence - but it seems that when trying to give good 'free' care to absolutely everyone, then an over-seeing monopoly is necessary (not to say that we can't bring market forces into the system to try to innovate).
Selective quoting I see. Free at what cost to the state, the state which is 'ring-fencing' Education, Pensions and the NHS. A qucik glance at the stats say that is unsustainable, unless the country goes through another enlightenment and we embark on a 21st century industrial revolution, then that's not going to happen so something has got to give.
The stats show the UK as whole spending less money on health than most other western countries, that part doesn't appear unsustainable at all. They'll print more money, devalue debt and are already targeting 35% of GDP on state spending. If they are able to do that without the Guardianistas rebelling then it's perfectly affordable - the public debt was much bigger after WWII. In saying that I'm not getting a state pension, I've already accepted that - they won't be able to afford it, because demographic changes means there will be too many hospital hogging old people and not enough earners to cover welfare as well as health.
You're all over the place ffs. We spend less NOW (though I find that entirely unbelievable) but once you add in every fkers pension, then I bet it rockets up the table to top spot and by some margin too. Stick to fkin up websites whilst I single-handedly solve the world's problems.
