I noticed this. I seem to remember Walcott having 'no footballing brain', yet it turns out he should be a super sub so he can come on and 'play instinctively'. Do pundits really have much of a clue, do you reckon?

It's not broken so why fix it. Milner gets slaughtered but he does a good job protecting Johnson and puts a reasonable cross in. Walcott is clearly more effective when running at a tiring full-back so I don't see the point risking upsetting the balance of the side.

and our defence always gets mugged by counter-attacking football.

Walcott's becoming a bit of a Super Sub isn't he. I think he makes for a perfect second half sub to terrorise the tiring opposing defence. Apart from Walcott, we really didn't look like scoring. His assist and goal saved England.....

If we were playing a midfield three then I could understand it but sitting deep with Walcott on the right of a 4-4-2 is asking for trouble defensively imo. I wouldn't be against him playing up with Carroll but Welbeck had done well and presumably Rooney will be put straight in.

Did Walcott actually mean the strike for his goal?

You're the first people I've read that think it was intentional.

I think it was a 'no alternative' but to shoot/lob it over the fast advancing players ...... he got lucky.

There have been a dozen other rubbish attempts - so I give him a lot of credit.

Walcotts goal was what's known as having a go. He knew where the goal was and threw one into the mixer... Tadaaaa goal!

well hes , what , 30 yards out from goal , he hits it directly at the goal , what would anyone think his intention was .?

a cross ?..................too hard for that .

a pass ? .................Over the top of all the players ?

a miss hit ? ..............with power in the direction of the goal ?

whatever it was ..............i liked it.

some people have commented on his facial expression after to be one of , " errr....what just happened ? "

I dont think it was , i think it was one of , " what......whats all the fuss ? ...just shoot and score ..simple " !

take a look again , its just epic.

Of course it was an intentional strike for a goal, it is clear when you watch the way he did it. He hit it way too hard for a cross. The trajectory, though , was unintended. I thought it was a bit of a miss hit. He intended it to be lower and flatter, methinks. Instead it went up and then sharply down. Theo was surprised so much he thought is was a deflection. The boy must learn to keep a straight face whenever his balls incidentally end up in the net. :))

Do you think it was a pass or a cross ? What do you think he was trying to do ? <doh>

If you ask a stupid question what do you expect ?? He shot at goal and it went in, what do you think he meant to do ? He was somewhat surprised it went in over the keeper but nonetheless he meant to shoot and score <doh>

Looks like he just hit one... The result was a spectacular but rather unintentional goal...

Not to split hairs, but since you're acting holier than thou, the 'question' in my original comment is clearly rhetorical, and is therefore not asking a 'stupid question' as you put it. So, have a good look at that smiley you used and apply it to yourself.
