Maybe because they played as a team with a work ethic.

I'm sure that was the game we were singing "get your nostrils off the pitch" awesome!!

As for the OP - I reckon, much as other said, they'd score goals at their peak but the game has moved on so much they'd most likely lose 5-4 every time!! Great entertainment but few points to show for it!

I think the best Peter Reid story I heard was told by Niall Quinn when Sunderland were playing at Tottenham. I think the lad up front for Sunderland was Mbomba and he clashed heads and he was lying on the ground dazed. Quinny said to Reid on the touch line "boss I don't think he knows who he is"....Reidy replied "tell him he's ****ing Pele and get on with the game"......lol

was waxing lyrical about this before the Swansea game. we had some quality signings, probably the best to wear our shirt at the time was Thomas Helmer. told to play in midfield, told BS to **** off and never played for us again. I never got to see him play. :emoticon-0106-cryin

Of the managers who have only managed you in the Premiership (so disregard those who managed you in the premiership and the championship) who do you think had the best win record?

Did you really just take a Brian Clough quote and attribute it to Peter ****ing Reid <laugh> <laugh> <laugh>

DISCLAIMER: There are also claims that this quote originated from John Lambie, but it certainly wasn't Peter Reid <doh>

I think - not certain - but that it was Martin O'Neil. The best win records from the past 20 years for you were Reid, Keane, McCarthy and O'Neil (in that order I think) - the other 3 all managed in the Championship as well as the Premiership.

One little moment I remember is at a match the bloke behind me, wanting Reid to bring on Michael Reddy (dunno why) shouted "Come on Reddy, bring on........Reidy"

Just always tickled me picturing Peter Reid steaming onto the pitch and the way the guys voice tailed off as he realised what he was saying.

Too right you're not certain, McCarthy got 99% of his wins in the championship, he must have one of the lowest premier div win %ages of any team anywhere.
I refuse to check for fear of depression flashbacks.

Wasn't he in charge during the season we broke the record for being the s*i*t*s* team ever? Only to be inexplicably broken by Derby a couple of years later.

Yes, and you mean 'face-savingly' not inexplicably.

And that season Derby took 4 points from us (they would have done the double if it wasn't for a late equaliser at St James Park). To have the worst team in Premiership history consistently outplay you - it set us up for the derbies!

I do but to this day I'm still incredibly grateful and baffled in equal measures. I never thought that record would be broken let alone almost immediately.

I guess they just wanted it more.

This one you need to take up with Niall Quinn himself. He said it at one of the clubs road shows where they speak to the fans. You know....where the club goes out and speaks to the fans...not email them. You guys don't even do meet the press right? They all banned apart from the Daily Mirror....lol. You appoint a new manager and he doesn't even have the gonads to speak to all the press.....really asserting his authority there.....lol. So mate go and speak to Niall and tell him he is a liar.....big ****ing lad mind....good luck!!!
