Thought we should discuss this separate to the Rebuild thread. We have the following U23 players included in the squad for the pre-season tour. Ethan Laird James Garner Hannibal Zidane Iqbal Facundo Pellistri Charlie Savage Tahith Chong Anthony Elanga Alejandro Garnacho As I've said in the past, I'm a big fan of the two in bold. I hope they both make the cut in the coming season.
These are the ones we should be putting our faith in - youngsters who are hungry, willing to learn and who have the adaptability to fit into EtH's fast-paced style of play
Chong isn't first team standard. Teden Menghi looks a decent prospect to me. Saw Ethan Laird play for Swansea good few times last season, looks great in a back five as a wing back, although obviously against lower quality opposition. A lot better than Dalot for a start. Wasn't so good in a four for Bournemouth though, although only saw the one appearance. As I've already said, Garner better than McSpoofer in my opinion. Brandon Williams not in the squad?
Isn't Brandon Williams on the for sale list? Shame if he goes, he was always competitive and could put in a decent cross. perhaps EtH doesn't like people with more hair than him
I like the idea of Ajax United at the moment - they know what the manager wants and how he wants to play the game - so less coaching for them, and more time to focus on bringing our donkeys up to speed.
Pretty sure for his first window that's what he wants. Then he has some time before Jan to work out what he needs once he has assessed the full squad including U23s.
I thought it a strange move bringing on 2 youngsters and a fairly young new signing with 5 minutes of added time to go. No chance of them having an influence in that timescale. Odd.
Really? When you're winning yeah but at that point in the match you had 5 minutes left to try and get a point.
He was never found to throw the Garnacho, Savage, Garner's of this world in first game. He was (unfortunately) going to stick with the likes of McTominay and Rashford, who are deemed experienced. Who both preceded to stink the place out (yet again) so he'll know better next time, hopefully. Garner better than McTominay. He just is, I know this from having seen both play. McTominay way too often!
A lot of teams have made a few very late subs this week, i think it's a way of giving deserving/promising players an appearance bonus to keep them keen.
well since multiple subs were allowed clubs have often given young players experience of first team football but i doubt it is fir the reasons you suggest but more to do with them getting used to a full stadium and the matchday intensity .
