Yep, my worst was sitting in the stand at HQ when we knew we had been relegated from the prem. We still had to go to Forrest last game & i was convinced we'd never get back up...!
The saddest day ( Night ) for me was on May the 4th 1976 listening to a wireless, surreptitiously placed under my pillow from my mum and dad who insisted that I was in bed by 8:30. It was the night Liverpool played Wolves at Molineux. This match would determine the outcome of who would win the Football League 1st Division Trophy, 75/76 season. I was only ten years young on this important night. As I layed there ( with my three sisters asleep whom I shared our two bedroomed flat on the White City Estate ) I heard that Wolves were 1-0 up at half time. I thanked the good lord to whom I had been praying to since the weekend when we had defeated Leeds 2-0 at LR in our final game to go top. All was going well throughout the second half. Wolves needed to win this one to avoid relegation to the second tier. Please hold on Wolves...Please. They did... until the 76th minute. Keegan scored. 1-1. A point was enough to hand Liverpool the title. I prayed once again. Please Lord let Wolves score. It wasn't until the 85th minute that the next goal came. It was in Liverpools favour, they then scored another in the last minute to make it 3-1 and hand them the title. It was all over. The title eluded us and was snatched away. All in a matter of a few minutes. I switched off the wireless, turned over and sobbed into my pillow. It must of been quite loud as it awoke my eldest sister. '' What's the matter with you? '' She asked. '' We didn't win the League and I don't believe in God anymore. '' Was my reply. And since that night I haven't.
That's one of the best posts I've read for a long time mate. That was certainly another of my worst QPR moments!
Sadly 9's i actually went to Molineux that night, couldn't get in the ground and had to stand on a grass embankment surronded by Liverpool fans trying to get a view of half the pitch. 15 lousy minutes.......
