Yep I know why Plym but I'm a spectator who is looking to be entertained and there are 50 to 70,000 paying customers who have forked out the equivalent of a months wages minimum for a ticket who are even more looking for their money's worth. I'm almost relieved that there is a two day gap now because I'm not sure I would have watched anymore. I will give it a go on Friday when the next match kicks off but won't be sticking to it if these don't improve. I can watch crap football at Home Park anytime.
Missed most of the German v French match today as I went out to the Hunting Lodge for a bite to eat with family. Very nice it was too. The bit I did see was the last 10 minutes which looked anything but entertaining so guess at 1 - 0 it was the same as the whole match. As for the Brazil v Columbia game tonight well what can you say. I thought the Ref was terrible and pretty biased in all honesty. I thought the Brazilians cheated. A strong word but not in this case for me. Dive dive dive.......you would think they were all serving in a German U-boat. The Ref should have stamped on it after the first few minutes and to wait until halfway through the second half to produce any card at all was rediculous. He booked the young lad James for a nothing tackle when he had lumps kicked out of him at every opportunity for 80 minutes up till then. I so hope the Germans do a hypno go to sleep act on them in the next game because there is no way they deserve to win this competition. Never thought I'd end up hoping the Germans would win.
I still maintain that the knock out stage has been pretty boring throughout. Nobody deserves to win this competition in all honesty.
The Germans also showed Tom Daley how to dive as well.......especially Klose....just outright cheating. I'm sure that the French thought they were winning.....no urgency at all....went out like a damp squid.....disappointing game and no atmosphere at all.
Sat through the marathon which was Argentina v Belgium followed by the Dutch v Costa today. I am almost commatosed. What a load of rubbish football most of it was. I suppose the best team won in each match in the end but I repeat my last comment above. None of these teams particularly deserve to win this. I think the initial matches were far better than previous world cups but the knock out has been dire.
Well blow me down. I have to say that I'm actually quite chuffed with tonights scoreline. The Brazilians have been poor and in my opinion have cheated or tried to cheat the most and they did try again this evening. Germans took them apart and I'm now wondering what will happen over the next couple of days there. Absolutely shocking result for them and I doubt anyone in the universe would have bet on that score.
Brazil turned up with nothing to offer......no plan....no defensive General........no attacking star, other than Neymars shirt to hold up....their defence was attack minded with no thought of defending......the Germans couldn't believe their luck......4 goals in 6 minutes.....like a knife through butter....so easy......Scolari surely had planned more than just playing for Neymar and Thiago Silva who both where unavailable.....Brazil put so much emotion into singing the national anthem that they couldn't see through the tears in their eyes....totally humiliated.....some of those players will never recover from this experience.....some will never get picked again to play for their country....who would have thought that a Brazilian team playing at home with millions of fans screaming for them could have nothing to offer to that extent.
Feeney could have scored............(blimey). Not sure about tonights match and who should win it. Argentina have been consistent even if they are prone to throwing themselves on the floor. Except Messi that is. Pity the rest weren't the same. Dutch throw themselves down just as easily which is a pity because they play some decent stuff. They started off really well but have begun to struggle a bit since. From a European point of view it would be good to see both finalists from here but I suspect the Argentinians will be desperate to rub the Brazilian noses in it even more by being finalists in their back yard. I suspect Argentina will steal it but not by much.
Well what a surprise. 120 minutes of absolute crap. You just knew when it came to pens that the Argentinians would go through but now they have to play Germany. I cannot see any other result than Germany lifting the trophy. They are just about the only Country who half deserve to do so in this competition.
It wasn't that bad sensible.....tactically they just cancelled each other out.... trying to make openings for their main players. Holland got it wrong with the shoot-out.....starting with an unproven player...whilst Argentina started with Messi....who then calmly scored to put more pressure on the dutch players.....the only thing that Louis van Gaal got wrong all tournament.......shame he didn't have Tim Krul available for the shoot-out......Jasper Cillessen kept well but he wasn't upto the shoot-out.
van Gaal said afterwards..... that his first two choices for the first penalty refused....that's why Ron Vlaar took it.
The world cup has ended now. I vowed never to watch Germany v Argentina after 1990 and I'm sticking to it. What a shame we ended up with this as the final.
Sorry to disagree plym. I watch Argyle so I know perfectly well crap when I see it and that was pants. They did more than cancel each other out. The ball went backwards more times than in the rugby world cup. Scared stiff to try anything worthwhile both sides and Argentina were quite happy for it to be a pen shootout. To be fair no side has particularly deserved to be in the final but I'd have to say the Germans probably are the nearest to that so hope they lift the trophy. I won't be watching the third place game but I suspect I will give the final a go.
As said above I resisted the temptation to watch Brazil's last burial rites. Sure enough they got dicked 3 - 0 I see and probably lucky to score nil. Kills the myth about everyone on the famous beach being a shoe in for any team in the world doesn't it. The tide must have been in for a long time for them to decend this low. I expect to watch the final tomorrow but also expect a turgid affair as finals seldom live up to any expectation of greatness. I was so made up after the group matches thinking this was going to be a great tournament but what a let down since. It's enough to make you want to give up football altogether and there is me having bought my season ticket again already. Do they do refunds?
Prediction before kick off. Absolutely boring match with Germany not being quite like Holland and not being phased even if it comes to penalties. So German win by no more than one goal, probably 1 - 0 and the ball going round and round the pitch getting nowhere for most of the game. Go on surprise me and make it a classic.....
Well not a classic but on the other hand not a turgid bore either. Think both had a go to finish it before penalties and both put a lot into it. Just about on balance the result was the right one for me. Predicted 1 - 0 and sure enough they didn't disappoint. Was always going to be close. Overall during this tournament the best team has won it which for football has to be the right result. Lets get the season underway now...
For me this World Cup was the best in years and the best team won. And now like Sensible said "lets get the season underway now"..
I'm surprised you've bothered to come back Punchdrunk.......having been allowed to feed once more at the trough that you nearly destroyed.....as mods go you certainly where clueless weren't you ?
The best team won....a hard physical encounter.....won with a very good goal from super Mario Gotze. Bastian Schweinsteiger was outstanding.....he gave himself completely to the cause.....his battered body must really ache this morning.....but with a winners medal around his neck he won't even notice. Where does this leave England....answers on a postcard to Greg Dyke please....but don't expect anything to happen or change.....not one England player is remotely near world class at present......we had no idea what was required to perform at this level. We where panicking at the thought of having to play in the heat and humidity of the Amazon in that first game....other countries just got stuck in and gave everything for the cause.......we don't dare do that....inadequate at this level without a star player to depend on. Expectations were low and we didn't disappoint.....and the fans were happy with our mediocrity......that is worrying.
