You really are a nasty piece of work... My comment on DM was about his instruction from the board to half the wagebill by the summer to comply with FFP and not to do with the situation he found himself in. The article was about FFP you muppet, show me exactly where it was that I produced a smokescreen, or blamed this for DM's demise...? Can't do it...? no of course you can't because it's not there is it...?
My apologies if this has been said previously, but is it not the case that the FFP rules for the Championship are at present solely financial guidelines for clubs to use as a target. There will not be any sanctions placed on clubs who infringe those guidelines during the next couple of years?
"He had Stead,Pitman,Taylor" 2 **** and 1 with the jury still out! No city fan would swap Baldock and Davies for any of the others? (unless they are totally ****in shot out) so we improved? Sorry he doesn't...
'Baldock and Davies for any of the others' Who said they would. Life/budget is about priorities. You could live with getting 1 of these 2. But to spend most of your budget on 2 strikers and leave FA for defenders is a total absurdity. Sorry he does... Our league position proves it.
"2 **** and 1 with the jury still out!" I'll say it again.. Cos you didn't see it first time. We didn't score anywhere near enough goals last season, The manager bought 2 quality players that became available, but more importantly were willing to come here, I don't think the board said buy these and that blows the budget for defenders, we have had several offers out for various different defenders, everyone was crying for us to sign Mcmanus when he had to go back, now they cant wait to see the back of him! Same with Bates, everyone saying get him in he's quality! not so much now eh! Bikey for £30k a week? don't think so!! Theres more to running a football club in the real world than a bit of hindsight opinion from behind a keyboard, but I fear the new manager is gonna have the same problems as the old one and if he keeps playing the same failure players will keep getting the same results. I genuinely hope I am wrong.
I don't know why you keep banging on about budget. The Baldock deal was monies owed to us from Maynard which was due this month. It has been mentioned time and time again regarding defenders 4 defenders that we knew about turned us down Elliott Ward, Anthony Gerrard, Richard Keough and Gary Monk. These are just the ones that we knew about probably a few others like Bikey (not my choice) to add to the list. Instead of constantly blaming McInnes as Banksy says are attacking options was **** last year, but even Millen tried to get defenders and had to resort to loans. IMO the board have a target for forwards and a separate target for defenders sounds **** but just the way I see it. They won't go over that target so we can only attract loans or **** and both Millen and McInnes choose loans.
'a football club in the real world than a bit of hindsight opinion from behind a keyboard' - Is that not what your doing. I said from day 1, do you want me to find the post or will you take my word, and likened it to when Shaun Taylor finished. All we did was spend millions on Thorpe, Anderson etc. And were relegated. 'I don't think the board said buy these and that blows the budget for defenders' - So why did the likes of Gerard choose Huddersfield - Wages. 'Cos you didn't see it first time' -don't be silly.
"So why did the likes of Gerard choose Huddersfield - Wages." Exactly, you have answered your own question! How is that the managers fault? and before you say if we didn't buy one of the strikers we could have afforded the Gerrard wages! Have a think about what a wage cap might actually mean! "I said from day 1, do you want me to find the post or will you take my word, and likened it to when Shaun Taylor finished. All we did was spend millions on Thorpe, Anderson etc. And were relegated" Selective memory again! Vilmos Seebok (Hungarian international Captain) and Sean Dysche (highly sought after Chesterfield captain) were brought in to strengthen us, they didn't work out! Even someone with your fantastic foresight couldn't have predicted that!
'Sean Dysche (highly sought after Chesterfield captain)' - Sorry that is to funny for words. I remember well the 2 clowns we brought in, it just goes to prove you pay peanuts and you get monkeys. And if we hadn't wasted the millions, didn't we already have Akinbye, we could have afforded better defenders. 'before you say if we didn't buy one of the strikers we could have afforded the Gerrard wages! Have a think about' - How much Baldock and Davies are on. Are you telling me Gerrard asked for more than either of these 2 ?
'"before you say if we didn't buy one of the strikers we could have afforded the Gerrard wages! Have a think about' - How much Baldock and Davies are on. Are you telling me Gerrard asked for more than either of these 2" Now you're getting it! "Sean Dysche (highly sought after Chesterfield captain)' - Sorry that is to funny for words." That good old hindsight out again, thats what he was when we bought him, unfortunately not when he left! Its all very well basing your arguments after the fact, I'm trying to point out that 'at the time' perceptions are very different. I can remember all the fans clamouring for The Club to buy Martin Woolford season after season, describing him as the "best left sided midfielder in the championship" another clown to add to your list! I could go with those examples for hours..
I don't believe Gerrard asked for more than either of Baldock or Davies. If you know or believe different that's something else. 'I could go with those examples for hours' - we both could. Let's agree to disagree.
Way I see it, SL and the board have always been more than willing to pay big money for a marque striker signing in the championship.. Trundle - £1m Pitman - £800k Maynard - £2.25m Adding Stead, Styvar, Davies, Baldock, Taylor etc who I don't have the foggiest about how much we paid. Comparing that to the defenders we've actually paid a transfer fee for in our time in the championship.. Nyatanga, Foster - £150k?, Cunningham - swear I read under £100k somewhere?!... Having a blank and can't think of any others? Nowhere near as much as we've spent on forwards, is that down to a succession of managers that wanted to sign strikers or the board and the money they're willing to sign off for tranfers is dependent on position..
Delboy in a video interview (6 weeks ago?) clearly alluded to the fact that both Sam Baldock and Steve Davies came here within our accepted wage structure,I was surprised myself especially Sam Baldock who I had seen written somewhere was on a boatload of money. it just goes to show how our fans make stuff up in their head, repeat it to others and it becomes some sort of fact! Del in the same interview stated that the defenders he had approached wanted too much in wages for our structure (Bikey 30k a week!) Examples! Nicky Hunt. -- the fans proclaiming him the best defensive signing we have ever made (when he signed!) Dele Adebola -- the signing to take us to the premier league , yeah right. It probably was the right time to try another option as manager (after that Leicester debacle there was no other option!) but there is stuff wrong at this club that doesn't all sit at Derek Mckinnes door.
Trundle and Pitman to name but another two eventual failures... Chris Wood probably the hottest property outside the premiership at the moment.. according to our fans not good enough for us! Again and again it happens...
That is my opinion as well Jambo, it seems to much of a coincidence that a succession of managers have done this when the only people that have been through it all are the board. I don't doubt that Gerrard Buszacky or Ward asked for more than Baldock or Davies but it is common knowledge that the manager attracts the players here, then the board do the negotiation's. Look at the one from Crawley, both managers have said they are interested in him and then it is down to the board. Surely they must see that we are up **** creeck for the past few years now with the defence we have, and they don't think to pull out the stops to get some tidy defenders. If you want to blame McInnes then that's your choice, but I believe it goes back further than him, all the way to the board.
