Last time we beat them was 6-12-2015. Since then it’s W 0 D 5 L 11. But we are massively improved and this game would be a good one to break that run. We play them at their spot on 26.02.25.
We beat them under the mighty Steve McClaren, they weren't great then though, Klopp had only just arrived and they were finding their way. However since the takeover we've been far better against them, ie a few years ago at Anfield when they needed a 98th minute winner, the recent draw etc. We are in the best position we've ever been in recent times to beat them. They will obviously be favourites, but we have a chance. 4th Wembley final in my lifetime, hopefully not a 4th defeat.
A 40 minute game that finished 0-0 that we won 1-0 on penalties? Don't remember that tournament, but it sounds ludicrous.
The first of those 2 we never had chance, but the last one was a genuine opportunity. In fact the last one was a better opportunity than the one coming in March.
Yes, although our team will be significantly better, 2023 team: Karius Trippier Burn Schar Botman S.Longstaff Guimaraes Joelinton Almiron Saint-Maximin Wilson Keeper situation was unfortunate but Karius ended up being out MOTM, team otherwise much stronger - Hall at LB, Tonali in instead of Longstaff, and the front 3 of Murphy/Isak/Gordon far better than Miggy/Wilson/ASM. Our current front 3 gives us a chance to be at anyone.
Liverpool are a better team than us though. We're a good side, but there's no point in bullshitting ourselves by finding reasons to deflect away from it. It's easier just to say we'll most likely get beat, but if they aren't at their best and we are it's possible we could get a win. It's football you never really know, but it's fairly predictable this one I think.
The good thing is it's just one game, not the whole season. Liverpool will obviously be better than us over the whole season, but anything can happen in one game. Everyone knows they're favourites, but we're playing much better against them in recent times, and got a draw this season during which we were ahead twice. Also no extra time and straight to penalties means there's always a chance things could swing either way. Howe needs to do proper homework on dealing with that Liverpool attack as it's deadly when they're on form, Spurs didn't deal with it properly last night and they were ripped apart. Hopefully even if we lose to them league, we can use what we learn in the final.
We haven't had any off days in the cup, there's been occasional ones in the league, but play our best and there's some chance. It'll be unforgivable this time if we get to final and don't turn up like we did 2 years ago.
Snore ****ing snore. Everyone else will watch them game in over a months time and see what actually happens.
