Ah all good here Eddie, your post puts some perspective into it and makes sense. Being from Australia I obviously don't have the rivalry between clubs in my blood, only what I read and take in as 'how it must be'. In saying that I found your description of the banter between London clubs as vastly different to the way it is portrayed and pushed outside of England. The idea of fellow London clubs enjoying good natured banter is made out to be non-existant, so it is refreshing to see your experience in going to games over the years. For me it wouldn't matter if Charlton were playing millwall or Burtion, i am ecstatic being able to see the squad on the pitch in a full game. I do have it in mind that it is a plus to view a London-rivalry type match, but don't want to see any 'firm' action so to speak... And, of course i am almost as excited for the midweek game and hope we slay Huddersfield ! One day i hope i make myself travel to Charlton and see a game or two in person. Cheers Eddie
This is an interesting post, Oz, and has brought out the nosey-git in me - Have you ever seen Charlton play in the flesh, Oz? How did you come to support the Addicks? Are you Australian born? Do you plan to get over to England in the near future? Cheers,
Hey Ponders, Never seen Charlton play in the flesh, and no concrete/solid plans to travel just yet. But if/when I next throw a leg over a plane I must endeavour to make it next stop Charlton. Yes Australian born, with a French heritage/surname that you would never catch onto if you met me. As the brits know, we are a mixing pot over here - from the first ships to the current boats hitting our shores...every creed makes us home. I wish I had a story of romance, or historical meaning as to how I came to be a CAFC fan, but I don't. I am extremely loyal by nature and stick solid once i'm in. The honest, boring truth is it was the year 2002 when I chose CAFC as my bride. I had spent about 2-3 seasons watching/following the Epl with a mate (gunners fan) and never favoured any team. I am never one to choose a team, or decide because of popularity etc... and I kept coming back to Charlton. It was a combination of the players, the results perhaps, and ultimately just something inside drove me to follow Charlton. Long winded answer, but there it is The A league here is very average to watch, I can't. It is frustrating to watch. When I catch a League one game from England for example it appears 2 or 3 levels above the A league. Bedtime gents
