I still think this transfer/contract business needs a re-think, its loaded against clubs in favour of agents and worse, transfer fees should be abolished imo and players should pay agents fees not the clubs, this nonsense with the two awols highlighted the absurdity of it all, no one seemed to know what to do, once a contract is signed, clubs are helpless, its crazy.
Nail his contract down, look at the offers in the summer. We'd be demented to entertain any offers in January Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
Didn’t Pogbas agent get nearly £40 m between the two clubs , and then still took another £3 m from the player ? Ridiculous.
Ridiculous? Those figures at least explain why Pogba is looking for yet another move already. And there is no point in blaming either the players or the agents. They are simply taking advantage of a golden opportunity that's lad on a plate for them. The Clubs could stop this sort of thing easily. All they need to do is to refuse to pay agents at all. But no Club will be prepared to rely on another also no paying. Fair enough, get FIFA and UEFA to ban payments to agents by anyone other than the players that agent represents. Just to nail in, instruct the respective Associations to take punitive action on any Club that breaks the rule and make this mandatory. Relegation by two Divisions, ban from European Competitions for five years and a huge fine would do it. Any Association that fails to implement the rule, ban their Clubs and National Teams from foreign competitions. This WOULD work. But there's more chance of my Peerage coming through.
Great Post. . All we need for this to work, or something very similar, are the right people at the top, but where are they, do they still exist, not on the evidence of the last 40 years.
Absolutely. The clubs have helped fuel it, and as you say, they need to help each other get out of it.
I don't understand where it got to the point where the clubs pay an agents fee. The player hires an agent therefore he pays him a wage/fee from his own wages or signing on fee. Too simplistic? Saying that if I use an agency to get me a job I don't pay them do I? My new workplace would pay them a fee wouldn't they? I don't know where I am going with this...….
The system evolved without anybody realising, till it was to late, that a monster had been created. First, The Clubs held all the cards and the players got a VERY raw deal. Then came agitation from players such as Shack along with court cases from such as George Eastham, picked up by the Players Union, led by Fulham inside forward Jimmy Hill and all sorts of things started to change. The Maximum Wage was abolished and Johnny Haynes became (officialy) the first player to earn £100 a week. Initially most players did their own negotiating. Against the Pro's in the Directors Box they were not good at it. Many engaged Solicitors to negotiate for them and The Players Union had their own advisors who would represent The Players. And if left like this, all would have been well. However others, Ex Players, Advertising Agencies, sports Agencies that already represented other sports spotted a new opportunity. The first crack in the Dam that led to the floodgates opening. The Clubs though gave it all a huge push when THEY started to employ agents to work on their behalf. For example Club A might be unable to approach a player who was under contract to another Club. But they could engage an Agent who could talk to that players agent to 'test the water'. An imaginary conversation. --AGENT A - I know that Balls FC will pay your lad £100K a week if he moves to them. They will pay YOU £1mil as well. AGENT B- Great, I'll get him to stick a transfer request in. Then agents could act independently, seeing who might be available, approach a Club and offer to set a deal up. Such an agent could seek a fee from all parties. The waters get muddier and muddier as you push the possibilities. We have now reached the , 'if you want to sign my player you must pay ME £x, or I wont let him sign'. WANTED. An Emoji of a very small tail wagging a very large DOG. It's worth noting that League 1 & 2 and non-lge Clubs pay little or nothing to agents. In many cases their Chairmen simply refuse to deal with them.
That's not entirely true. Agents do work at non-league level and Chairmen (actually usually managers directly) do deal with them. In many cases agents at this level are of great use to clubs as they cannot afford extensive scouting networks and agents not only inform of the availability of players but in many instances of the very existence of players. Most moves at this level don't involve agents because players often move between clubs in their own leagues but I understand they can be helpful in bridging the gap between the professional and semi-professional spheres.
Maja would be mad to go ATM. Frankly, he looks a good player, but that doesn't mean he's going to thrive in the nether regions of a City or a Chelsea. Better to stay here and develop his game as we (hopefully) rise through the divisions and he gets to meet a better class of opposition as we go. He reminds me of Craig Russell as he rarely wastes a chance and is remarkably accurate with his shooting. If we can hang on to the likes of him and if some of the other young players come through, the club will be seen as a good place to be and there won't be such an imperative to make a move.
well Man c etc can frig off, he won't get first team football for years in fact he might never play for Man c the bottomless pit of money football club they are, slap a £50m buy out clause straight away just to keep them away, and the same with our goalkeeper. Mind you a loan in Jan for Aguero and I might think different. And who the hell are Southampton we are bigger than all but 4 teams in England and that's because of money but the tide will change. if I win the euromillions Maja is stopping with us !.
