Anyone of a nervous disposition may well prefer not to read this latest MFW column!
It's appropriate and relevant to this thread (thanks for starting an already well used thread, Braveheart <ok>) but what ECLake is saying goes against the grain of the general consensus on here - even though I can fully see where he's coming from.
(just NOT West bloody Brom, that's all I ask <grr>)

Unfortunitely this is our place in the footballing food chain and why it is imperative that we get promoted straight away. These bright young players that we have will all leave at the drop of a hat for double the salary or more that PL clubs will be falling over themselves to pay for bright and British to fulfil there quoter. You can't blame the players, it's a short career and oportunities may not come round more than once.
This is why it has been terrible business on the part of our board, our perhaps brightest youngsters less than 10 months away from walking away with only a tribunal to give us a fraction of their market worth. We can but hope that we can persuade them to sign and stay for the time being. Hopefully they will heed the warnings of other players who have jumped too high too fast and ended up on perpetual loan. NCFC could well be the right place and right time for them for the next year or 2.

    Bah!

Brilliant post General and I REALLY can't believe how naive NCFC had been in allowing their contracts to run down to only 10 months and yet they're stupid enough to offer Whittaker a 1 year extension!
    Words fail me! <doh>

Neil should sit them both down holding a sledge hammer and say either sign the contract extension or I'm breaking your knees.

I know each club is obliged to try to negotiate hard to keep wages down and can't give all the players what they want. It most be tricky to guage that right when they doubtless in their new agent have someone telling them, You're worth more, don't sign it in Januaruy if you play well i can double it.
In the summer we had one player that played very well in the 3rd tier and one who played well in a poorly performing Championship side. If we didn't offer wages commensurate with that level of performance with maybe a bit more for the fact they are getting better then I dispare.
The only offers for either of them then was a sub £1M offer from Coventry I think? Now they have been outed as the hot prospects that they are. The agent will be saying they are £5M, £10M or more players, pay them what Mr Naismith is getting or I know a PL club who will.
Our dallying over their contracts will be the destroyer of our potential to keep or profit from them. And that is Knot good.

    Bah!

A knot is a wader, normally found on mud estuaries.
Alternatively, it is used to secure a boat by tying it up to a post or metal ring in secure moorings.
Something distinctly 'fishy' about your use of the word here - given the boating puns that have gone before :emoticon-0112-wonde

Unfortunitely this is the cost of bringing in talent, we seem to have got complacent and taken for granted the talent at home. Surely players like the Murphy's should be as policy have annual performance related renewals to ensure we always retain at least 2 years for resale value if nothing else. As far as I'm concerned with their performances last season they had moved from callow unproven youths to odds on good championship players. Surely again the board should have acted to secure them? We don't know the facts of the situ and I'm sure they have been advised not to sign in order to drive a harder bargain as their contracts tick down and also to see if they are going to get first team oportunities. Bloody agents!

    Bah!

I bow down to your deductive powers, I do have a tendancy to go a little overboard when it comes to punnary.

Snettisham at high tide is the best place in the UK, apparently for them. When tens of thousands all take off together as the high tide pushes them further up the mud bank until there's no room left.
No transport. so not doable from Cromer for the crack of dawn, sadly.
