And the reason they don't throw big money at defenders is that they are limited to three foreign players per game...having a great CB is of far less utility than getting the best three attackers money can buy.

Odd, given that (according to analysis reported in "The Numbers Game", a rather excellent book) not conceding a goal is worth more points than scoring a goal. One day football will catch up with that fact.

To be really ITK, he has to work there (and if so, be very close to the top or it is just office gossip) or know someone in that position (and they are not scared to lose their job, so probably not senior). My guess...if he is being honest...is that he knows someone quite junior. A junior person picks up on gossip, but will not know for certain. Anyone who has been in a workplace will know that scuttlebutt is not always accurate.

If true, offers known about in advance and on the way suggest encouragement from the board....otherwise the clubs wouldn't waste their time. Has the board changed its collective mind....possibly, they may be looking for a way out.

 

Many years ago when the NFL was a big thing in the UK with the Channel 4 coverage l once heard the statement "offense wins games; defence wins championships" - I do think the same applies in the EPL.

 

Seems most of us clamber for the tiniest tidbits from ITKers but then criticise their credentials and question what they say as soon as they open their mouths
