Vettel leading until a gust of wind punts him off... that or he tries to overtake Verstappen.

Bottas to get pole and to lead the race until they swap to put Hamilton in the lead on the last lap to win the WDC while people go apoplectic and their heads explode.

Vettel to crash for no apparent reason.

You mean like Ronnie O'Sullivan needs another century – or like Trump needs another hairdresser when he gets windy?

Sorry, not 'he', of course; I meant 'it'.

I mean if Hamilton wins the title in the US imagine the party he will have and the publicity he will get. He will be super pumped to win this one.

trump should give him the title.

he should fly in with 8 laps to go and hog the tv coverage as he demanded this as part of hosting the race so racing fans can't see the borefest... sorry racing happening on track.

The sooner Hamilton can get the title. The sooner Bottas can get a race win

I believe they've scrapped the driver intros. Joe Saward mentioned it messing with the drivers' toilet schedules, but that might have been facetious!

Seems like we are going to have rain until Saturday evening.... that might be a psychological advantage to Hamilton and a disadvantage to Ferrari, seeing they take much longer to heat up their tyres in the wet, and Vettel too, hasn't been very good in wet conditions. Sunday is supposed to be dry and the track is good for overtaking so hopefully we have a great battle this time.

It will also be cool around 20C which should benefit the Mercs, if that still holds true. Everything points towards a Lewis victory, so my money's on Seb.

Seb to be down the field with an issue and Hamilton to hand Bottas the win?

The first part is always a possibility but I very much doubt the second.

The biggest turn-off for F1 in USA is a manipulated result; and although such a gesture would be properly understood as magnanimous, it would still be resented. It may happen after the title has been wrapped up but I'd really be surprised if it occurred beforehand – especially here where F1 is still on a mission to convert the cowboys.

    Bad to worse?

Sebastian Vettel has been summoned to the stewards for allegedly failing to slow sufficiently when the red flags were shown during practice.

The FIA confirmed Vettel is under investigation for an “alleged breach of Article 31.6 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.”

“Car five [Vettel] failing to slow sufficiently during a red flag period in practice one at 10:40.”

Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon received three-place grid penalties when they were found not to have slowed enough for red flags on previous occasions this year.
