Nobody wants to santitise a football ground Sensible, least of all me,giving stick to the officials, opposition and away fans is all part of the banter and some of it is very funny. But as you rightly say there is a thin line between hating and joking, but what concerned me yesterday was the degree of obvious malice behind it from some individuals.Ok we are at risk of another relegation in another crap season, frustrations are running high but it's no excuse.Believe me we need to nip this in the bud-now.
That was the point I was making aka. The mob were just doing banter in my view but the individuals away from the mob were not. It does need stopping altogether because no matter what I or they think it was, the powers will only see it as racial because they have to. I'm not sure where the line will be drawn on this or what is or isn't acceptable. I spent 14 years in the RN in the 60s and 70s and everyone got the piss ripped out of them at some point or other and most of it wasn't exactly polite. However, I very rarely heard anyone say anything with any malice or venom. It was only ever in fun and if you were the butt of it then it kind of showed you were accepted and had arrived so to speak. Today there would be uproar. The real racists, sexists etc have ruined what was really good natured ribbing and now the PC brigade have taken over the asylum. There isn't any going back so maybe it is best to just say nothing anymore. The fact that the player took it in good part of course is not much of an excuse as he clearly wasn't a "gypo" and didn't own a caravan but what about a player like Eastwood. Do the same words become racist if aimed at him and he has had plenty of it in his time. This player probably doesn't care as he knows he isn't one and doesn't live in a caravan. As said it is a minefield and the line is very thin.
There definitely was an issue yesterday which connected with people, witness the large number of responses on PASOTI and ATD a lot of people felt uncomfortable with what they witnessed incl me.My experiences in life of opposing racism and discrimination have taught me that some kind of action needs to be taken. Will be talking to the club tomorrow-just ask they take it seriously.
Plymborn. El Presidente may well have tried to absolve himself from any blame if people are referring to his baby, Forza Verde, as Ultra's, and indeed he has tweeted that they have never been labelled Ultras so why do people make it up? Well Chris, it might have something to do with this: http://www.pasoti.co.uk/talk/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=61129&hilit=argyle ultras The man will take credit for anything and blame for nothing.
And here is his "tweet" Chris_Webb1: Once again people falsely labelling FV1886 as an 'Ultra' group. It is not, has never been and will never be. #whymakeitup? #pafc
Nice of you to visit our little "sleepy hollow "greenjock, Unfortunate post he made there..........I assume he tries to rectify it with his later post of 14th of Dec 2011. You don't need to be a history buff to know the "ULTRAS" European track record..........and with Chris Webb being a Union Official with leanings politically in the opposite direction he should have come up against the term before.
I should post on here more often, but with my time being taken up as a freak, weirdo and coward, it's fitting it all in lol. In fairness to Chris, I don't believe for one minute he had anything in mind other than to raise the noise levels, but he did brand it as an Ultras group originally and he should be big enough to hold his hands up and say he made a mistake.
Thanks for paying us a visit........we're probably rather tame for you.........but you know you wont have a leg bitten off here,.......... we are aware of what is happening in the big bad world of Argyle websites and we do visit as you well know.
