Anyway, there's no hard evidence that the KKK was started by Scots although it's likely there were Scots or Americans of Scots descent in the original KKK. There were people of English, Welsh and Irish descent too.

Interestingly, the KKK had almost died out until DW Griffith's released Birth of a Nation (originally named The Clansman) and it all started up again. Just shows how easily people can be manipulated by movies.

However, the name ku klux is derived from the Greek Kukloi meaning a circle. The word klan was added later to give it a more rounded name as that of a club to which people could belong.
