I only know Parisiene Walkways of his solo works and it is so toe-curlingly awful that I daren't imagine what other horrors he served up.

I must admit i always preferred the Floyd after Barrett left, Atom Heart Mother is their epitome.
Barrett was a clever ****er though.

Admittedly he doesn't have much of a singing voice, but he more than makes up for that with his twangin' skills.
He did do some proper pish though.

I think Roger Waters songwriting became better for whatever reason. Some of the lyrics on DSotM and Wish you were here are some of the most profound lyrics you will ever hear. The lyrics in Time are a prime example

Dsotm, is a good album don't get me wrong, but i think it's unfortunate that it overshadows Wish you were here, which is by far the better of the two albums.
I like most of their stuff tbh, although the studio album of Ummagumma was a tad on the pish side.

It was all downhill after the split and Waters left. Gilmore's lyrics give me dry wretch. He just tried too hard I think. Plus he seems like a pretentious ****

You aren't wrong there, but he can't 'arf play the strings.
And tbh, i think it was a change that was badly needed, the final cut was a godawful album, even worse than some of their later eighties albums.

There are vocals? Never got that far. The only tune that you could truly say might sound better done with panpipes. Wouldn't want to get stuck in the elevator with that **** playing.

He's good, nothing exceptional but still a frontman that suited the band. When learning to play he is a good introduction to lead guitar. Challenging to learn but not to the point its discouraging. From there it was on to Jimmy Page, Stevie Ray Vaughan then John Mayer. :D

I gave up playing the guiitar when trying to copy that Yngwie Malmsteen dude, ma feckin fingers just wouldn't move fast enough.

Same when i had a spell on the drums, tried to copy a guy called Jeff "The Zombie" Jarzombek from a yank band called Riot, **** that **** could hammer the skins fast.

Roger Waters was the pretentious prick i thought and he still is.

two best songs on the wall were written by gilmour, comfortably numb and run like hell.

Can't stand any of that Floyd, Zeppelin, Hendrix etc. bollocks. Self indulgent twaddle where the barometer of a good piece of work is how long a guitar or drum solo lasts. It veers off into all directions not because they were wonderful musicians but because they didn't have the intelligence to put a proper tune together. Solos are fine in their place but pricks like those already mentiuoned seemed to want to throw them into songs at the drop of a hat. Turgid, mindless rubbish.

    Well that's my opinion anyway!

I agree. But then we're probably not "cool" and are missing the point of it all. Or we haven't smoked enough dope.
