If we let them own everything no one else has any assets. All of our assets are moving upwards. The middle class is shrinking. Then what?
The thing is, there has to be a limit on how much you can tax. They’ve already been taxed on the way to owning their assets. We can’t then go at them again through their assets that they’ve now got. Morally, it’s not right. They’ve done the hard work and paid what’s to be expected. Good on them. Let them enjoy the fruits of their Labour.
Austerity was just as cop out by an incompetent polical class, which is the same as Musk and his DOGE. What should happen is gov says to senior CS teams we want prod improvements all the way thought gov not pass down chain and get rid of the main people doing jobs but pol class scared of unions.
There is a theory about tax... its a bell shaped curve you can increase taxes to a certain point, but a turning point is reached..the rat diminishes That is why, growth is needed and why we cannot pay out all the welfare and pension amounts
Im not sure what you are trying to say there. But when you buy an asset, like property. You are taxed stamp duty upon buying it. And you are charged capital gains tax when selling it. So you also support being taxed every day you own the asset? Can you explain the appeal to buying an asset, when it actually becomes a tax burden? When assets become tax burdens, people don’t want to own them. You know what that means? Bad news for the housing market and bad news for the government, because people don’t want to buy assets, which means less stamp duty and capital gains tax for the government. Instead of extorting more money out of the people. Perhaps another idea would be to look at what our money is already being spent on. For example, the billions we give away to other countries every year. Maybe if we kept those billions, it might help our hospitals, schools and services. We could also close our borders for a while. The millions we spend every day on these migrant hotels would be greatly appreciated by the NHS. The government is wasting billions every year on numerous different things. If you get somebody capable of running this country, you won’t need to tax people more.
So watch this. Tel me of it’s wrong / untrue. Tell me who makes the money when the bills go up or the prices go up? They aren’t paying the tax we pay because they buy more, we own less as a result but pay more, they continue to buy more. The people we are talking about aren’t like me and you. They own our ground rent, our mortgage companies, lend to our government with higher percentages. If we don’t tax them everyday person suffers more and there is no way back. Immigration is not the problem relating to our cost of living, the increase in the cost of borrowing is. We need our state to have more from them so our children can have a future. It’s that critical. Right now. We go the Farage way and it gets worse not better. It’s time we changed the narrative on immigration and get people to understand the real failure of our economy before our children and their families have their lives ruined.
With respect you’re rabbiting a Farage line or two. The issue with the NHS in truth is social conditions that lead more people into health. The migrant hotels are a Tory policy disaster and not irrelevant - all waste is bad - but relatively a piss in the ocean. Read this https://www.instituteofhealthequity.org/taking-action/marmot-places Tackle social inequality you reduce health costs.
I agree about the benefits. There’s clearly room to manoeuvre when you see some of the disposable income that many of them have. Cuts can be made there. Folk who only draw a state pension and have no private pension are struggling. If they don’t own their home it’s not enough to get by. I don’t see how we can make any savings on that. The private pension should not be taking into consideration for the people that have them. I agree tho, you should grow your way out of economic struggle through created wealth and not taxation.
Financial assets include stocks, bonds, cash, bank deposits, mutual funds, annuities, and derivatives. These are non-physical assets whose value comes from a right to future payments or profits. Pe op ke with excess wealth just buy more and more so don’t get taxed on cash like we do. Tax them anyway is my point.
What if taxation helps create more wealth for more people ? I agree with your comments on support and security being important by the way. If we make that universal we benefit from that in so many ways. Inequality of wealth makes most of us poorer.
Stop giving away money and start using it on our services instead, I think that’s common sense rather than a farage line. I care about the people of our country, and I want the tax money of our country spent on the people and services in our country. Surely that’s what tax is designed for? Why is my money being sent to countries like India, when I see homeless people as I walk through my high street? Other countries need to start sending us money, we are absolutely skint.
How do we pay for services if we have no money? Which one do you want ? No tax, less tax or services? On the foreign aid thing people also need to get real. I want youth services that are few to access. I want more support for the homeless. I honestly don’t know what we send to India but as a concept if poverty drought, famine etc etc is reduced we get less migrants. People move when they are likely to die or suffer. People need to understand that cause and affect.
Starmer didn’t cut 40,000 police. Labour had the shortest nhs waiting lists in history and had school sizes under 30. We need some perspective. This government have some **** to clean up which is not of their making. Farage, Gove and Johnson fckd our country with Brexit with a ruined economy and record immigration. If people think Farage has the answers we are truly fvkd. Our NHS will be the first to go. People need to be careful what they wish for. as for Yaxley Lenon he is a racist ****
This is just an aside, but this is an incredibly incendiary topic and, on this thread, I've seen nothing but good honest back and forth. All very respectful. That's exactly what's needed if we ever want to try and sort anything complicated out. Good points and different views to be made and articulated on all sides of the argument, that deserve to be taken on face value.
There’s always suffering in the world, no matter how much money you throw at countries. The migrants won’t stop until we stop paying for them. You can give Sudan a billion a year for the next 100 years, it won’t stop their migrants coming. Why? Because that money never makes it to the people who need it in those countries. The world has been pouring money into Africa for years and years. What’s changed? Poverty is still high, crime is still high, opportunities are still low and people are still flooding out. Let’s be real here.
What about him? https://www.theguardian.com/news/2023/apr/25/duke-of-westminster-hugh-grosvenor-profile
Migrants won’t stop if we stop paying. Let’s get real here. Or if we use the navy in the channel. Less war would be a big help .
