    A fret refers to each segment on the neck of a guitar, evenly spaced out by the metal strips (frets). Normally when you play a guitar, whatever chord you are playing, your fingers would be placed as close as possible to the metal strips (frets), as in the picture below...

    No mate, there's loads of chords, and then on top of that you have barre chords, the latter being more difficult. I've never had a problem with barres, but some guitarists, normally beginners have to adapt to an easier style, which would be basic chords (known as open chords) or alternatively use a device called a capo.

    Basic OPEN chords that a beginner would have to learn are;

    A, C, D, G , A minor (AM), E minor (EM). <<< that's six just there.

    Music can become a bit repetitive, much as I said about beginners, where four chords would fit many songs. After all, you can only work within the scales there are. That's why it pays to be adventurous with songs, yes learn how the artist plays it, but then add your own style to it. I think there was an example I gave sometime ago, where the same song, could be played four different ways. If you are not a singer, then you need to be more adventurous with the instrument you are playing. I can't sing btw.

    Thing is with electric guitar, you can do anything with it. Playing an unplugged Acoustic is much harder and very restricted. I first learned on acoustic, so the switch to electric was a piece of cake. Next time you see a homeless person with an acoustic, to earn donations, take a look at his/her fingers, they will probably be ridden with calluses - those steel strings are a killer, well not literally!

    See i have a problem with thread, as always on here it turns about guitars..

    Music isn't all about guitars, it's drums, keyboards etc..But as always it stems down to the front man..The singer.

    Hiag can claim to be able to play the guitar, but if you have a **** frontman/singer, does it matter?

    Being able to more than one?

    I can only comment on guitar, that is all I know, I know nothing about drums. If I was to learn something else it would be keyboard. I can't sing, so I'm pretty much fooked on that front.

    Edit; I'd covered earlier about the point of not being able to sing, you really need to be more adventurous with the instrument you know, if you can't.

    Never too late. It will probably cost you about £25 an hour, but if you wanted a new hobby. Once you've got the basics in, you could then self tutor via youtube.

    Can’t believe they would ruin such a prestigious event by paying tribute to Liverpool title win.

    Even Oasis' Wonderwall, in the intro and chorus' is only four chords (capo on 2nd). There is literally hardly any movement of the fingers at all. The important part of playing the song is the rhythm. I couldn't even explain how to play that rhythm, you just know and the chords are but mere finger memory. For a non singer, it's an excellent song to play, but very busker!

    I eventually looked back on that vid, he didn't miss any part of the theme out as I first thought. I think he was a lot more slick if that's the right word, and blended in his change of notes, quicker and smoother, which made me think he had missed a section. They are like for like, but just on a separate part of the fret board, either side of the 7th fret with some minor interchanging.

    Obviously if HiaG had still been with us, he would have been able to explain all of this to me <whistle>
