As much as I agree with the sentiment, it seems there is a lot of confusing Liverpool the club entity with Liverpool the disparate group of fans and their individual opinion. Whilst on one hand Godders suggests that one Liverpool fan (even if blinkered and rather myopic in his thinking) being mildly complimentary but saying no thankyou to Adam Lallana is cause to never let a Liverpool player play for England again, and your good self suggests that this handful of Liverpool fans may have some sort of influence on whether they get our players or not, on the other hand there sits another thread started by Godders that has a stress attack due to Liverpool the club entity being linked to one of our players.

Other than that general confusion, the bigger picture for me seems to be a few on here backing themselves into a corner, weapons drawn, massive chip on shoulder, ready to go into battle with fans who are all to all intents and purposes coming on here to praise our team. The always stupid 'little old Southampton' phrase is getting worn, and on one hand we want this massive exposure and appreciation we are getting at the moment, whilst on the other we don't want any press mentioning our players moving (guess what - that comes with bigger exposure), whilst still further we want to impress on other fans how much our players will improve all their squads, and how dare anyone suggest they don't want them! I don't understand the defensiveness. We are just a team with a plan, executing it currently pretty much to perfection. We shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves, or act like we're the first team this has ever happened to. I think graciousness becomes us, and remember that we are only a Danny Fox away from a bad run of form. I for one would just like to see sustainability in this model, and it appears NC is playing a long game, and I hope that we as fans (not just on here, but in the wider world) get past this current bit of hype with our good grace intact!

Well said saintnogreavsie. Personally, I will always try to keep the debate light with a rival fan, and I certainly won't be first to raise the heat. If the heat of the debate is raised I will back off entirely or try to diffuse it. Doing otherwise only leads to slanging matches and very little satisfaction and understanding. I would hope that posters here would just take a step back and think how they might diffuse a debate, or keep the heat low, whilst getting their point across, if they wish. There are no need for insults or jibes, just trying to reach a mutual understanding, if possible, or a joke where both sides can laugh if not.

I am waiting to see a newspaper report that says:

"High flying Saints are looking to strengthen in January by signing XXXXXX from Man Utd/Spurs/Liverpool/City/Chelsea/Arsenal."

Then I might not feel quite so pissed off with the media.

    Kagawa/Vertonghen/Sturridge/Aguero/Lukaku/Szczesny

They could do a job for us.
