It's all very well coming out and saying we weren't good enough today...

...but this was supposed to be the big showcase, was it not?
Knock down ticket prices, about 12,000 real fans inside the Valley? (the official figure is 17,500 but I'm only guessing as I was not there)
Robinson talking the team up all week, saying he was "relishing" the encounter and how the team were in their best form of the season.

And when the whistle blows and the players have to produce - we fall flat again.

Personally I would not call a 1-2 away victory at MK Franchise as our only win in the last 5 games 'the best form of the season'
but then of course I have a sense of entitlement, apparently.
I will admit I feel entitled not to have to listen to hours of flim-flam from the gobbiest manager in the EFL, whose team then fails to deliver anything.


Why were we not good enough today Gaffer?
After all your preparations and a massive PR onslaught.

Could it be because we are just not good enough, full stop?

Portsmouth, 25 years back at the Valley, once in a generation ... flopped.
Shrewsbury, Promotion clash. £5 ticket extravaganza ... flopped.

When a big performance is needed we cannot produce one.
Wembley is no more than an apologists' pipe dream unless something changes radically.

Although we would all love a day out at Wembley, it would be an Act of God if we fail to get there with this manager & players.

I don't often agree with Jonkool on ITTV but he has got it spot on.

We are lightweight tippy tippy team.

We win minimal headers in defence, we win minimum headers in midfield, we win minimum headers up front.

We win minimal tackles in defence, we win minimal tackles in midfield, we win minimal tackles up front.

We win minimal loose balls in defence, we win minimal loose balls in midfield, we win minimal loose balls up front.

The manager makes zero tactical changes.

The manager believes that his one and only formation will eventually win games against the top teams.

The manager believes that tippy tippy young men will beat committed physically aggressive high press opponents.

Us fans are resigned that another season will be spent in tier 3.

Any arguments to any of these observations???

Got it in one really.

Same mistakes & shortcomings every week, and a manager unable / unwilling to change.

Zyro was (another) terrible loan signing.

I didn't personally think that Shrewsbury had to try that hard to beat us. If you can't find one of your own players with a pass (something that we failed to do, pretty much all game) then you are constantly handing the initiative to the opposition.

I read now that Jay Dasilva suffered an ankle injury during the Shrewsbury match, and he may miss next Saturday's game at AFC Wimbledon.

If he has not recovered fully perhaps Dasilva should be rested for that game.
A week later we are away at Peterborough, and three days after that we go to Blackpool. Both of those games will be at least as difficult as the Wimbledon clash, probably more so.

Unless Charlton can win two of our upcoming three away games we will probably slip further behind in the scramble for 6th place.
Other results were pretty kind to us this weekend, with nobody around us except Plymouth picking up a win.
Charlton could have ended up in 9th place at 5pm yesterday rather than 7th.
 
Trains

I think the '6th place' bubble is about to burst.

A couple of poor results in our upcoming away games and Charlton could find themselves in 9th or 10th place, and as many as 6 or 7 points below the play-offs. By then, with perhaps ten games left to play and a very difficult April fixture list, the threadbare hope will be extinguished.
Results in other matches have been kind to us on several occasions. But that is no basis for optimism, as that kind of luck will inevitably run out.

Perhaps we will have a new owner by that point, but personally I doubt it.
