Personally think atm we could play 3-5-2
Whilst I admit I am not a fan of the tactic either, it could work for us...

----------------------Pantilimon------------------
--------Vergini-------Jos---------Brown-------
Jones----------------------------------------PVA
--------Larsson-----Catts----Giacc-----------
-----------------------Johnson-------------------
---------------Defoe----Fletcher----------------

Johnson/Alvarez could be swapped, same as Giacc/Rodwell to suit

However that imo could be a rather devastating team

Pva and Jones bombing forward and having the pace to get back, Johnson given a free role behind the strikers with Giacc pushing on from the midfield to assist in attacking

wouldnt say its particularly deviating from Gus' style that much AND it also means the defence is well covered...

Love that team. Don't think the FA would be too happy though <laugh>

In theory a great idea but I can almost guarantee the team would have no width and get pinned back for 90 minutes as with that formation the wing backs are paramount and as much as I rate pva revelliere and Jones I don't think they are of the class needed for 532 to be a real attacking threat

We have to go 4-4-2

Against Spurs I would go with

-----------------------CP----------------
vergini-----Brown------JOS-------PVA
-----------------------catts------------------
Johnson------Larsson-----Gaicchinri
---------------Fletch-----Defoe-----------

We would get slaughtered

My worry is Poyet loves a central DM and I think he might rather play 532 to accommodate that rather than sacrificing that for 4231

Even with 12 men? :P

They should try my system.

a). Get the ball.
b). Pass it to someone wearing the same colour shirt as you. These are your friends.
c). Use this method to get the ball to the other end of the pitch. Do not pass the ball to any of the chaps with different coloured shirts. These are not your friends.
d). When you get to the other end, put the ball in the net. (Any one of you, it doesn`t matter who). You can use your foot, head, knee, arse, anything except your hands.
e). Repeat from a). until the chap with the whistle (Who is nobodies friend) tells you you can have a rest.

Even our lot should be able to understand that.
Nah this is more like it:

This more than Fletch, Whicks, or anybody else is the main problem, and it places too much responsibility on Catts or Bridcutt, it might have worked in the lower leagues but with our slow CD,s its suicide.

If Gus sticks with his current system but chucks Defoe up front on his own we are wasting our money. The lad is a good player but a lone striker he is not. He's a poacher, a damn good one but still a poacher, he barely gets involved outside of the penalty area. We need to change things round a bit if we hope to get the best out of him. Ironically, I think Jozy would have been an ideal partner for him but obviously that's no longer an option... Wickham could do the job?

I'm pretty confident Gus will stick with the usual system, stick Wickham wide left and call it a "partnership", and Defoe won;t see the bal for 90 mins.... Hope Gus can prove me wrong...

I`d need a dof for that mate. Fancy the job?

I devised the system so that complete idiots could understand. Might still be too complicated for them up the road like. <laugh>
Just been listening to the Wise Men Say podcast. They summarised football under Reidy as:

1. Lose the ball a lot
2. Someone kicks the ball up in the air
3. A big man heads it to a little man
4. The little man makes a goal

Amused me.

I'll put a "big man" and "little man" on my DOF list

Gus alludes to wanting to play differently in his press conference on SAFsee. In between grinning like a demented Chesire Cat that got the cream, then everybody else's cream, then boshed Angelina Jolie whilst watching his team beat Real Madrid ten nil at the Bernebeau....
