I only sat in the top of the double decker once and it was a cracker of game. It was a Tuesday floodlit game in 1979 against Watford in the old 3rd Division. The.Swans won 3-2 but both clubs were promoted to the 2nd Division.
I was on the North Bank that night as I was the previous season when the teams drew 3-3: Tosh’s first match for the Swans!
My first match was stood there on the terrace of the decker. Home to Northampton I think - we won 1-0 and I missed the goal as I was warming my frozen hands as an 8 year old.
My first match was a 1-1 draw against Peterborough in May 1966 when I was 8 years old: we were on the Bob Bank ie the East Bank
Forner Wales Manager Mike England with former Swans’ Chairman Malcolm Struel. I met Mike on a few occasions at The Sandpiper in Barbados. He used to stay there every December to celebrate his birthday. I got to know Malcolm very well when he and I were involved with Neath RFC in the 1990s.
Roy Bentley (Chelsea and England centre forward) was the Swans Manager. 2 from this squad played in the old First Division under Tosh - can you spot them? Tony Millington is the Number One goalie - and my personal favourite Swansea goalie (by that I don’t mean ‘the best’ I mean the one I liked best!): but can you name the back up goalie? I later played with him for BP Llandarcy and I still see him attending Swans matches: I had a chat with him in the club shop before both of the first 2 home Championship matches this season.
I remember him playing for the Swans, I used to work with his brother many moons ago. Sadly both have passed away
