Just the one goal for the Swans but … 24 for Napoli 98 for Lazio 193 for New York Cosmos & 4 for Italy
….. In the league cup, there came Tottenham who were lucky to draw the game And therefore for the replay, we went to White Hart Lane No one gave us any Chance with Ardiles and Company But you should have heard the Cockerel cry when the Swans scored number three
I was on the North Bank, and remember the tackle on Ardiles like it was yesterday. Ouch. Is there a video of the replay available ?
I was on the North Bank as well that evening - around midway between the Half Way line and the East Bank. I can visualise Tommy’s tackle as well. If I remember correctly in the Press before the game Tommy had warned that he was going to give Ardiles a warm introduction to British football
Tottenham 1 Swansea City 3 League Cup second round replay - Wednesday, 6 September 1978 The Swans caused a cup upset at White Hart Lane as they dumped First Division Spurs out of the League Cup. Following a 2-2 draw at the Vetch Field a week earlier, a replay was required to see who would progress to the third round. Swansea led 2-0 in the original fixture, courtesy of goals from Robbie James and Jeremy Charles, but favourites Spurs roared back to earn a replay thanks to strikes from Glenn Hoddle and Gerry Armstrong. Spurs were fully expected to win the replay in North London, but it was the visitors who again raced into a two-goal lead. John Toshack headed in a Nigel Stevenson corner to give the Swans the lead, before Jeremy Charles converted a fine cross from Danny Bartley to make it 2-0 at the the break. The returning Ossie Ardiles linked up well to set up Ricky Villa to tap home to halve the deficit midway through the second half to set up a tense finale. But it was Swansea who had the final say as Tommy Smith's free-kick was flicked on by Alan Waddle and Alan Curtis slotted home to send the visitors into round three. SPURS: Daines, Naylor, McAllister, Perryman, Ardiles, Taylor, Hoddle, McNab, Villa, Armstrong, Duncan. SWANS: Crudginton, Evans, Bartley, Smith, Bruton, Stevenson, Charles, James, Waddle, Toshack, Curtis. Attendance: 33,672
