Rod Stewart was a big fan of Bobby Womack and told of being in a restaurant in New York years ago where Womack was also eating, and Stewart sent a bottle of champagne to Womack's table with a note saying 'There were only three - Sam Cooke, Otis Redding and Bobby Womack'.

A couple of years ago a friend of mine went to see Womack at the Jazz Cafe and found himself passing Rodders on the stairs -'There were only three Rod', he shouted, at which Stewart paused momentarily and said 'I said that, didn't I?'. My friend reminded him of the restaurant story, and Stewart said, 'We'd better have a drink'. He then brought my pal to the VIP bar and treated him royally.

RIP Bobby.

Currently watching the young and hungry Jake Bugg and spurning the old, overpaid Metallica. Flyer would surely approve.

Your link is good - i'll tart it up it bit for you with the Glastonbury 2014 version that you watched - several few years ago Arcade Fire backed up U2 at Magnetic Hill, Moncton, NB (2 hr drive from where I live - 80,000 people there. With the 360 stage setup very good seats behind the stage only sold for $28 (£13) with full stage visibility, plus the bands also made an effort to play to that part of the audience. For the intro to U2 the Govt of Canada even arranged for several low fly-overs by a couple of F18 jet fighters which was quite "shock & awe" inspiring. It had poured with rain all day and suddenly stopped and the sky brightened just before U2 came on.

Billy Bragg is coming to The Playhouse in my hometown in Sept - any thoughts?

He'll be better than Arcade Fire.

Apparently a Forest flag was flying at Glastonbury, with a banner underneath simply saying "Ooooh Bobby Zamora".

Billy Bragg is always great, you'll leave angry at some injustice or another.

Thanks, when any big name band/artist comes to your hometown of 50,000 it's worth the experience.

Last year I took in Canned Heat and Buffy Saint Marie - even my former German cartography professor from university days was at that concert and we had a good chat - in WWII as an 18 yr old paratrooper he was captured on his first drop and spent the rest of the war in POW camp in Sussex - best thing that ever happened to him he told me.

I see this BZ Glastonbury 2014 flag posted

Cheers Kilbs. I also thought De La Soul were good yesterday although looking v middle aged.

As many of us old farts are these days! I'm taking reduced OAP (CPP here) early at 60, rather than 65, just to keep the debt collectors at bay until the kids are out of the house.

Glastonbury awesome first day. Jungle were great as were a Temples. Del a Soul and Arcade Fire did a great job too. Also Bryan Ferry redeemed himself last night (was my all time worst gig at Wembley Arena years and years ago, but he did well last night).

It's definitely true, mate. I've seen the selfies he took with Stewart and Ronnie Wood.

Glastonbury strikes me as one of those annual events that interests a relatively small proportion of the public but, particularly through BBC coverage, we all have to 'enjoy' the saturated coverage. A friend of mine is there and her Facebook coverage is intolerable. "Ooh! look at me! look at me! I'm at Glasto, dahlinks! I've got designer wellies and my very own yurt (whatever that is); I bet you're sooooo jealous!"

Well, actually, no. No, I'm not.
