Yorks finest, with their first album in 16 years, I think - saw them last month, and they are still brilliant live - Shed Seven....
I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the music on Noel Gallaghers latest album (far better than his brothers Beatles tribute album)
To say I was excited when I heard Paul Draper, frontman from Mansun back in the 90s, was releasing a solo album would be an understatement - off to see him live in Feb, where he's doing all his solo stuff, then playing Mansuns first album in full....from Spooky Action, his solo album....
One of my favourite tracks of the year on this album by Idles - it's loud, and as the title hints, brutal - Brutalism....
After deciding to drop the 1979 from their band-name, Death From Above returned with Outrage is Now full of cracking tunes - supporting At The Drive In in March, can't wait!!
Another band to return after years away, 2017 saw Ride release Weather Diaries, and the music sounds as if they'd never been away....
Alt-Js third album took a little getting used to, but after a few listens you realise how talented these guys really are....
Finally, this is a happy cheerful partnership between Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile - brilliant album
Many other contenders, and lots of singles released that were brilliant last year. Saw some great bands too, top of that list has to go to Radiohead at the TRNSMT festival in Glasgow though, unfortunately all the BBC footage of that gig has been removed from YouTube
And a new track from Peace - written for mental health charity MQ - a new album due out this year....
Can't compete with some of you in terms of knowledge about new bands, but here are a few 2017 songs from elsewhere. 3 albums in 2017 from this lot!!
