Hope and Glory Festival descends into chaos as organisers pull the plug, Getintothis reflects on an almighty **** show.
The lead singer of
James,
Tim Booth, said it all this morning: “
Well that was ****ed up. What a mess.”
He was reflecting on the chaos and carnage of the first (and most likely last)
Hope and Glory Festival in Liverpool.
A first day littered with mismanagement and disorder led to mass disappointment of the thousands who went to the festival following huge queues, artists cancelling, poor production and general disarray.
On the second day organisers published the production manager’s email address on Facebook before offering up a statement on Twitter which simply read: “no festival today”.
Whilst Saturday’s chaos was the avoidable result of poor planning and management, there were plenty of customers willing to give the festival another chance before hearing of the event’s cancellation. However, for even the most forgiving of pass-holders Hope and Glory’s place in infamy will have been cemented by today’s PR disaster.
Social media went into meltdown as thousands of ticket holders, many who had travelled from across the country booking hotels and days off work, were forced into revising plans.
No explanation or apology has been offered by the organisers, bar the finger-pointing Facebook post from this morning. Instead, the entire second day has been cancelled with the likes of Hacienda Classical, Lightning Seeds, Public Service Broadcasting and many more now not playing.
A statement from the PR said: “
Hello there, please forgive the impersonal email. We have just been informed that Hope & Glory Festival is not now taking place today.
Apologies for any inconvenience, we’ll let you know if and when we get any further information.”

The Magnet has suggested stepping in to rescue some of the live performances – see
their Twitter for details.
The Lightning Seeds and Clean Cut Kids have announced on Twitter that they will be playing the Zanzibar tonight to make up for their cancelled Hope and Glory slots. Doors will be open from 7pm, free to anyone with a festival wristband.
What a complete shambles, you can sure that the organizers of this will never put on another festival again!
Should have been called the no hope fest...
