This next one will explain why I'm still up at 2am with work tomorrow... Love the video shot in the Aylesbury Estate, has that been knocked down yet?
I lived with an aunt in Southwark Bridge road for a while in the late sixties. That estate was being built during that era - probably seemed like a good idea at the time!
Being I was bored and could not sleep last night I looked it up. It's being torn down as we speak but don't get me started on this subject. What they are replacing it with looks crap imo, one of my geek intrests is architecture old and new. Anyway all the not so well off are being shipped out of London, apparently 40% of the new estate will be so called affordable housing, whatever the funk that's supposed to be especially in London of all places. London is loosing it's soul to the mega rich and privaliged. It's social cleansing if you ask me. My father's side of my family lived in a Peabody trust esstate in ladbrook grove, hence the QPR connection. There will be no working class left in London at this rate. Mind you I'm not saying the Aylesbury should not be knocked down, it's been long overdue tbh!
How right you are mate. It was a very different place then. Got me all nostalgic, they say reminiscence is good therapy for us oldies! My aunt lived in a block opposite the fire station, not surprisingly called Brigade House. There was an old style pub next to the station - seems the station is down for redevelopment too. Such is life, great memories though.
