Went along to the opening of the brand new Academy of Music & Sound in Southampton's High Street last night. There were some performances by students and lecturers but best of all was Mark Chadwick, lead singer of the 90's crusty band, The Levellers, who smashed a guitar on the front step of the building to "christen" it. He played an impressive set of old favourites much to the delight of the audience. Here are my favourites...
Don't know why, but have been totally hooked on Beach Boys - Pet Sounds lately, and can't stop listening. Sone great tunes hidden amongst some of the more well known stuff....
And also have been fascinated by this mini rock/folk/psychedelic opera about the Pendle Witch Trials - if you've got a spare 30mins, give it a go!!
Hey UTRs, just in from jnrs first gig...****ing amazing, don't know where he gets the talent from! Had a lump in the throat and tear in the eye! Got some good footage, which he's going to upload to Youtube, so will post some here when he does!
Was a great night, 8 or 9 local acts that have come through the community music trust set up by council - some amazing young musicians - makes you keep faith with the youth of today who can actually make good music instead of x-factor ****e who wouldn't know a guitar if it smashed them in the face!!
