12 Albums I've been listening to this year... Glaswegian post-rock/post-punk https://www.tenementtv.com/album_reviews/man-of-moon-dark-sea/
This years release from art-rock experts Everything Everything, very different stuff from them this time around... https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-...-universal-want-flaming-lips-b421079.html?amp
This came out towards the end of last year - Dublin post-punk bands second album https://amp.theguardian.com/music/2019/sep/27/girl-band-the-talkies-review
Bit of female Post-punk here - Danas' voice is hauntingly beautiful. Theirs was the first gig to get moved this year because of Covid, now not until November next year! https://www.nme.com/reviews/porridge-radio-every-bad-album-review-2622336?amp
A welcome return for Young Knives, some great tracks on this album, their first in seven years. Dark, bleak but full of energy https://www.musicomh.com/reviews/albums/young-knives-barbarians
Doncaster based rockers The Blinders with a great follow up to Columbia. Heading a touch more mainstream, this has some Kasabian influences but still staying true to their original sound. https://www.backseatmafia.com/album-review-the-blinders-fantasies-of-a-stay-at-home-psychopath/
Lancaster husband and wife team Lovely Eggs got to Number 1 in the vinyl charts with this release. Knocking around for a few years now (first saw them about ten years ago), a raucous psych-punk sound with gritty humour... https://louderthanwar.com/the-lovely-eggs-i-am-moron-album-review/
New kids Sports Team received a Mercury Prize nomination with this, their first album. Some catchy tunes - loud, brash and full of witty lyrics. These guys will go far... https://www.nme.com/reviews/album/sports-team-deep-down-happy-radar-2681765?amp
Radiohead member Ed O'Brien with his first solo album, a touch of Screamadelica thrown in with his guitar! https://longlivevinyl.net/2020/06/26/review-eob-earth/
Dublin post-punk again, Fontaines DC return with their second album, voted number 1 on Radio 6 albums of the year. A lot darker than the first album, some serious Joy Division influences (more of that to come....) https://www.theguardian.com/music/2020/jul/30/fontaines-dc-a-heros-death-review
As Joy Division influence goes, this is as close as you could get. Only discovered this band this year, but they've been around for a while, although this is their debut album... https://www.silentradio.co.uk/05/10/album-review-ist-ist-architecture/
Will Toledo back, and he's got friends with him now. Originally he was making albums himself, in his bedroom, then stepped up to a three piece. Now he's got a full on six piece band, and the production values have increased significantly...but so has the sound, less lo-fi than earlier material www.nme.com/reviews/car-seat-headrest-making-a-door-less-open-review-2657257%3famp
Leaders of the post-rock world, and Glasgwegian heroes, Mogwai produce yet another outstanding soundtrack. If you've not seen ZeroZeroZero, do so. Following a huge cocaine shipment from Mexico to Italy, via Africa, the story is compelling and beautifully accompanied by the music... https://theweereview.com/review/mogwai-zerozerozero/
Final one, and what a monster. IDLES third album, Ultra Mono, is like listening to a punch in the face! Acerbic lyrics, thrashing guitars, this how punk is done in the 21st century. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/music/2020/sep/27/idles-ultra-mono-review
