3.25 Jungle Secret

Ran well on only visit to Southwell when 3rd last season. Good comeback run after a break last time when only weakening at the end after making good headway. Stable in fine form recently. Should have a good each way chance of this low mark.

 

Lucky last with Fly True at Southwell. Likes it around Southwell and on a dangerous handicap mark now. Yard often does well in these kind of races.

Tomorrow in the 1.25 I like Queen Moya. Was running a good race back from a break when racing prominently until weakening in the final furlong at Newcastle. Tomorrow down in trip.Capable apprentice takes of valuable 7lb. If she takes to fibresand then a good run should be on the cards. Holds several entries next week which is often a hint that connections expect a good run.

 

In the 12:25 HANATI looks an interesting each way option:

- trainer has had 41 runs in the money from 99 starts in handicaps at Southwell over the last 5 seasons
- HANATI ran 2 times at Southwell for Simon Crisford and finished 2nd both runs
- today 2nd run after a wind surgery
- tongue strap on first time and cheekpieces back on suggests connections try everything today to get a good run out of this one
- rider takes off valuable 5 lb
- stable in good form recently

 

1.55 Straitouttacompton

- 2nd run after a wind surgery
- has shown that a race like this on the aw is within his capabilities with 5th from 11 and 4th from 13 at Wolverhampton and Newcastle
- wouldn't be put off by 1 lesser run on fibresand when chasing leaders until weakening final furlongs (was before wind surgery)
- stable in form (trainer has had his most wins at Southwell over the last 5 seasons)

The only negative is that compared to the last seasons during the winter Luke Morris isn't on fire this year.

 

I’ve had a very rare L15 today at Southwell, quite a few horses I like for the first time in a while.

12:25 Le Manège Enchante- very good run last time out, gets reward today.

12:55 Young Tiger - been progressive on the surface and this race isn’t as good as the last one he competed in here.

2:30 Suitcase N Taxi - enough said?

3:00 Silviacliffs - caught the eye last time out, repeat of that off 57 will see them go close. I think improvement isn’t out of the question too.

 

It will be interesting to see if Suitcase N Taxi defends his unbeaten record at Southwell in the 2:30 under a penalty. The danger could be Smokey Lane. David Evans is a shrewed trainer and on better terms this time Smokey Lane could reverse last form. Its interesting to see that Smokey Lane is entered in a stronger race at Wolverhampton on Wednesday.

 

One in and one non runner.

 

Is it Southwell or Sudell? Do those who pronounce it Sudell also use the same terminology to describe the compass points North, Sud, East and West...

I've not heard it called Sudell before. As a Yorkshire man I'd pronounce it Su-thul. But South on a compass would be south or sarth

 

Ok, thanks. The post was written tongue in cheek, but, I also did really want to know the difference, as when I hear English commentators saying Southwell they seem to pronounce it either the way Smokey said latterly, or as we hear it in Ireland as plain Southwell. It's just the different dialect in England then. Its 100% SOUTHwell though

 

basically the posh boys call that as they don’t know about dialects the rest call it as the locals do a la smokey!
