As incredible as it would be to become Red Bullhampton it won’t happen. Can’t see them investing that much from the get go, all the other teams have been cheap initial purchases and built up.
I agree. The simple fact is that they aren't interested. We wouldn't need to instruct a broker to find a buyer if they were! Not sure how the rumour has grown so much, there's no evidence of it at all.
I'm not sure what's worse, the fact that he initially failed the notoriously hard to fail fit and proper test. Or the fact that all clubs, us included, voted to change the rules afterwards to stop a similar person taking over another club.
A few years back, coming away from Coventry when the poor sods still had their own ground, a group of us got into conversation with some pissed off Sky Blues. We'd just won 4-2 and were on our way to the Premier League, while the trapdoor beckoned for them. They were telling us of our lucky escape with owners, as we all know the bunch of useless gits were serious contenders when Marcus came along. I'm pleased to see them getting back to the championship, but their future is still not great. This is Coventry. A city re-arranged badly by the Luftwaffe and City Planners. A city with a modest football team who hung around the Premier League for a long time and had the glory of beating a top 6 team in an FA Cup Final way back. Sound familiar? I'm sure those itk will tell me that the circumstances that led to the destruction of a team I always saw as a like-us rival going back to the 1960's are very different. But that fear I had in 2009 is starting to wake again. And before you ask, I'm usually a happy clapper. I find it hard to see this news as anything other than ominous, and just hope that another rich man goes to see his Italian born broker to ask advice about buying a watch, as the story goes.
I still think that we are an attractive club with a good reputation for hopefully a good intentioned buyer to invest in, we certainly have the potential to match what Leicester are doing with some decent backing and ownership.
The only people who are gonna be interested at that price is another Gao who wants to pick up the tv money while spending the minimum amount possible. I reckon we'll be relegated before we're sold personally.
Trouble is these days there is a term creeping in. Are we a fashionable club. No of course we’re not. Neither were Coventry......yet years ago teams like Leeds Aston Villa Newcastle were. Look at them now. Never ever felt GAO was the guy we needed to own us nor unfortunately his partner. We will just have to see if there is any real football enthusiasts out there. But for 250 + million. Nah can’t see that. But what do I know.......
As I said before, the ability to potentially develop in and around the St Mary’s area, will be critical to whether we can find a buyer with a bit of spare cash.
