Or you could argue that he wanted to test himself in a league he never got the chance to before. Playing for Juve in Serie A is basically a waste of time if you want to be challenged regularly, their squad is just so much better than anyone elses. Man Utd are obviously a massive club who have been **** (by their standards) for the last few seasons, a player may relish the challenge of being part of getting them back to one of the best in Europe.

Playing a bit of devil's advocate as I do think money has a lot to do with it, but I can also see some non financial reasons why the move would be appealing.

4/5 players for 2/3 positions isn't really over the top.

I now like West Ham's claim..... on the grounds that we won the Euros this year.

Yes, I'll give you that. Sensible reasoning. But he wouldn't get Champions League football in his first season, so there's a sensible one back. Besides, I just read on the BBC website that his agent says there is no deal. It has all been bla bla.

He didn't even throw in the word yet, to make it seem as if it would happen.

They have Wijnaldum, Lallana, Balloteli, Markovic, Coutinho, Ferminho, Mane, Origi, Sturidge, Ings, Luis Alberto, Benteke, Ojo - surely there's only so many attacking players you can have on the field at once, especially with Moreno at fullback! I know some of them will probably leave but it's still a lot of egos to keep happy

Yes. I replied to Jaidi's 5 players. Some of yours won't play that role and some of them aren't considered first team squad for them anymore.

FC Barcelona transfers Halilovic to Hamburg for five million euros. Barca have a buy back clause.

Every day I come on here I have a sense of anticipation of reading some nugget of news about us having scouted a player or are in negotiations and every time I leave underwhelmed... :emoticon-0101-sadsm No, not a meltdown, just an abiding sense of disappointment. Will be glad when the transfer window is shut and we are back discussing matches and upcoming fixtures :emoticon-0100-smile

These are footballers. How many of them are bothered about culture, galleries, museums, history, opera?, parks, gardens? Not many.

Going by that sort of thinking i.e. what a club offers them then they would be looking for a team in a nice climate (not UK) that has a nice posh beach, posh bars, posh restaurants a race track and a top golf course.

You could say the same for Ibrahimovic. Earning a fortune already and Paris vs Manchester? These players are coming because it is Manchester Utd, The giant in world football.

Maybe we shouldn't worry about any players coming through as well. After all you can still call yourself the academy for decades while you buy up players instead.

And we did win the Euros I agree with you. Portugal were going nowhere until they brought the Saints boys in. Terry Paine won the World cup too :)

He's an European footballer. They tend to be a tad more intellectual than the average English counterpart, don't you feel.? I hope I'm not stereotyping here, it's just an opinion formed through their body language and the way they talk about subjects, usually in an excellent second language for them. For example, we think JWP is quite accomplished. We're told by the club that he's an intelligent chappie. But he's one English player. Most European footballers come across as quite accomplished. I think one or two of them are capable of seeing past the biggest wad of cash, providing the wad they accept is big enough. In Pogba's case, that might be with his present club.

And btw, there are plenty of players who have said no thanks in the past.

That's a fair point. For example, London is often cited as a draw for players signing for Arsenal, Chelsea etc. Yet when Jurgen Klinsman signed for spurs, he was considered exceptional, eccentric even, for opting to live in central London and for visit ing art galleries, museums etc.

I think 90% of footballers the world over if they were only going for the location would look for beach - tick, posh bars - tick, loads of pretty and loose women (or very very mature and loose for some) - tick, nice weather - tick.

If it was about location and money the MLS would be absolutely jam packed with the best players.

From what I've seen Pogba is on 90k a week. What was Pelle on, 60/70k? In football terms hardly too much difference. I'm sure they will be on a similar wage at their new clubs, so financially quite similar. Pelle effectively ended his international career with this move. I replied to your simplistic post.

4/5 players who will expect to start every game, and bought for big money as stars, I wasn't including the other players they have that could play there..

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, but Pelle has scored his first goal in the Chinese Super League.

As did Alan Ball of course, although that was before he left Blackpool for a couple of bigger clubs, calling in at Everton on the way.
