This is before the new TV deal, and the increases from these new sponsorship deals. It was pretty common knowledge that our commercial side was/is terrible. It is the "gamble" you have to weigh up, traditionally those who spend the least finish the lowest, if we continue being towards the bottom of the spending charts then most likely we will fall down the league, and potentially out of it.

You have to also take into account that if we hadn't sold these players then we wouldn't have spent the money on replacing them. It is slightly obtuse to only look at the revenue from player sales, selling a player has many other consequences.

Are we towards the bottom of the spending/wages charts? I thought someone put something up recently that said we were around 8th??

Listen, I am not saying "don't spend," but saying that the Board have got the balance right so far, so why do people feel the need to say "spend, spend, spend" when the Board seem to pretty well have everything under control? They spend wisely (in terms of balancing, not specific players) with the money they had before, no reason to think they won't do that again with the larger amount of money

I am glad I started this debate about wages and spending...sorry guys
My point was about Leicester, a similar size club to us (apart from this coming season when they are in CL) spending £100k a week on players. If not very much mistaken we are sitting about £60k a week for our top players and our expenditure on wages versus income is 70% (not including this seasons TV hike in income). Added to that we are sat with a debt of circa £60m that has to be serviced and paid back
We have to be realistic and I fully support the board (I have run my own company and understand the challenges). Until we increase our commercial income we will continue to loose our better players especially as they approach the end of their contracts as we can't compete on wages.
Probably lit the touch paper and heading in the opposite direction...LOL

I think our top players were in the £80k region (before the end of this season and any improvements) so not that far off Leicester who of course will make a lot of money (and plastics) just off the back of their success however short it is.

I wouldn't boo Wanyama. We knew he was going. No badge kissing or statements about honouring contracts from him.

Am I the only one who thinks that £11-12 million for Wanyama is completely derisory? Whether he's in the last year of his contract or not, he's only 24 and he's proven himself in the PL. Spurs are getting a great midfielder with unrivaled strength and presence, who captains his country and is only 24, for £11-12? Seems an absolute steal and it's us who are being robbed.
